Well, I'd like to say that this was a super exciting, action-packed weekend, but not really. Here's a quick re-cap...
Wednesday after LeTip I went and got adjusted at the chiropractor, and then to a meeting for the Power Breakfast at the Redmond Marriott. Always nice to get free dinner. =) Hung out with my friend Chris afterwards; hit up Neighbours and R Place. He entered WET, yet only got 4th place. =( Neighbours was dead; I did not realise it was sooooo slow on a wednesday night. Sounds like Thursdays, for 80s night, is their best night- busier even then fridays or saturdays.
Thursday, my back was killing me again, and I went back to the chiro. Got adjusted again.... and he told me I should rest for a couple of days. Sent me off with a better back brace, and a note to not have to work for two days. So, took Thursday and Friday off.
Friday, slept in, woke up, finished loading the Prelude for my party I DJ'd. Hooked up with Jeremy and gave him the keys to the Jeep so he could use it for the event he was doing. Went out to the chiropractor again to get re-adjusted. Peggy Watt, my printer, met me there as she was seeing him as well. I picked up some promo materials that I had printed for the conference monday.
Yeah, monday I am running an exhibit booth at the Washington DECA Fall Leadership Conference in Bellevue. Over 1,200 marketing students and advisors from across the state are going to be in attendance, and many of the DECA groups are the ones hiring DJs for school dances! So, if I can get two or three events booked from this, it will pay for itself! Should be fun, in other words. I am giving out cards with our services printed on it, as well as raffling off one- free four hour event and 10- $100/off event discounts. The beauty of the event discounts is that they have to pay me money in order to get the discount... so we'll make money off the whole deal! =D I'm bringing a video screen, the DVJ-decks, song books, one of the SRX speakers (Just to show them off) plus a single Mackie 450 and mixer so I can have some tunes playing. I want to showcase the things we offer, and video is a big part of the package. This is our first convention/conference exhibit, so I am quite nervous. Actually, this year has been full of firsts- this, first trip to Oregon to play, first trip to Idaho to play, first parade float entry, first direct mailing efforts... hell, one of the first sets of Pioneer DVJ-X1s in Seattle! =-p
After I got back to Seattle, I hung out getting ready for the night. Went out and DJd a party in Renton from 7pm to 9pm. Left from there and went to Neighbours to play. For those who did not already know, I have been playing Neighbours Underground on friday nights from 10pm to 2am. It's been quite fun, and I think I am building a good group of people coming in. I try to switch it up each week, sneak in some classic dance music along with the current hit tunes. It pays pretty well, which means that I can hopefully start replacing my Trader Joe's income. For the time being, it will be a nice supplement. Good night in general, but I left my back brace there somehow (I swore I'd grabbed it....). That's bad, because I was only borrowing it from my doctor. D'Oh! So, it looks like I'll be paying for it... plus buying one for myself. Ouch.
Stayed out til about 3:30 and then finally went home. lol. It's nice being able to dance after I am done playing. I know I wouldn't be out this late if not for DJing there.
So I talked about supplementing or replacing my Trader Joe's income - I am at the decision point in my life. I cannot continue with Trader Joe's. This back issue is only going to get worse- so there is no way I am going to be able to be a full timer with it. At the same time, I cannot live forever on a part-time salary, and frankly, the cost of living is going to increase more then my pay will, and since I won't be able to work as good with a back going out (And no money in the world can compensate for pain) .... yeah. It's going to have to go.
That leaves me with the big question; where am I going to go now for money?
