pekkywriter .
I really want to go back to read fiction and classics, which I am trying after a long time. But I don't know where should I start with. I want to revisit Heart of Darkness; I want to read the short stories of Hemingway; I want to read The Naked Lunch (A hole in my mental library), Anais Nin (Another hole although I read a story that I found a bit racist for my taste), and read a new contemporary author. The book I am currently reading is The Death of Bunny Munro, by Nick Cave, who has as much of my admiration as a literary writer as he has with his music (And let us not forget that I had an autographed copy and even shook his hand!). And this is just the icing of the cake!
The problem is when am I going to have time to read all that I want to read, watch movies and my two biggest priorities: Learning Hindi and studying for my LMSW license. It's also been a while since I got some good music and I am feeling a withdrawal. It has to do with the modification of Yahoo Music (An unforgivable sin!) and the less than perfect Lala and Last FM. I don't have enough money to indulge in CD's nor do I have the space, so for me, anything that lets me stream records made me happy and current. That and missing the days I was DJPekky in college.
The odd thing is that for a while, it is lyricist, as opposed to literary poets, who bear the most influence in my poetry (For example: Morrissey, Tim Bownes and Nick Cave). Also in my prose it is movies that influence my writing too. But more writers have influenced my prose, so the case is different.
I want to keep writing. My muse is waking up. I used to dislike Fanfiction, but I find it rather useful because it has inspired me to dab into original work too. It also makes me be in touch with that corny side of myself that I won't express otherwise.
Time to write, I am making. Otherwise, my muse will be asleep again. But I am re-learning the craft again. The problem is time to read and concentrate when I have a lot going on. I guess I need some balance.
Those who love to write (And other artists welcome to answer too). How do you guys manage?
