I haven't been able to update in a while because I've been punished from my computer for the last few weeks of school because of mediocre grades, but now it's over. This school year's been a complete turnaround for me from freshman year. My tale has almost exactly followed that of one of my senior buddies, Tonnette Rising, whose article on her high school experiences I read in the Grads Issue of the Herald Guide a few weeks ago. My freshman year was horrible; a train wreck that I just wanted to get overwith, which is the exact opposite of a lot of people I know, who enjoyed their freshman years, but not mine. Like what Tonnette mentioned, the transition from a middle school consisting of a couple of hundred students or so to a high school of over 1,100 was tough for a timid freshman like myself. Class and lunch schedules split me up from the majority of people I was around in middle school; it was a mess for me, and it led to plenty of stress. Because of that, I was really uncomfortable and for the most part, stuck to myself outside of classes.
But this year was a total 180 degree turnaround. I found out that Tonnette took the exact same approach I took to help solve my problem. With a year of high school under my belt and the freshman label off for good, I decided to get more involved. I joined plenty of clubs and met a lot of new people, such as Tonnette, that I got to know very well. I had plenty of fun with the different club activities, and they helped to become more outgoing, as well as get my mind off the many stresses involved in taking an all-honors curriculum. I also went to some games, more of which I would have went to had I had a ride. It was a fun year, but I am sure glad to get away from the homework and Key Concepts. Next year should be fun as well, being in the upper half of the school with one more year left.
I'm not going to have much to do over the summer, which I don't like. But I will be going to Houston with my church to a National Convention, as well as attending my family reunion and hopefully going to Six Flags. I've been to all three before, and they've all been fun. So, I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer.
