A good friend of SuperVegan is trying to raise money to fund emergency surgery for a stray dog she rescued. Please read her message below and help if you can.
Hello, and thanks for reading this urgent request.
A stray dog named Biscuit has his leg snapped in half, and faces either major surgery or euthanasia tomorrow morning. Though he was hit by a car, it is unclear whether Biscuit is incredibly lucky, or terribly unlucky.
It will cost up to $6000 to treat Biscuit's injuries, and the money for surgery is required up front. The vets have said he should not be moved, and that he cannot wait long to be treated. We're urgently trying to raise $3000, since the other $3k can put be on credit cards.
As a puppy, DogB didn't have a perfect life. But, he was healthy, fed, treated well enough (by someone) to be loving toward humans, and didn't suffer the fate that many pit bulls do: His ears and tail still flopped, not having been cut off, and he had not been trained for fighting.
At one year (Labor Day 2007), DogB's collar was removed and he was dumped from a car. Within the hour, he was corralled using a path of milk bones, and dubbed "Biscuit."
Biscuit's friendly demeanor and Lab-like looks worked in his favor. When his vet reported that he was actually a Pit/SharPei mix instead of Pit/Lab, it explained his saggy skin, but brought the realization that he was actually a mix of two "fighting" breeds.
Biscuit quickly found an adoptive home and became Bosch. He was treated to walks galore, cushy beds and toys, tons of attention, and the magic of formal training. After a few months, due to difficult and unexpected changes in circumstance, his adoptive family was unable to keep him.
Bosch is now living in a temporary, foster situation, in a place of business. He spends too much time in a cage, but does have a dog friend that he romps with in a muddy field in the mornings. It was after this playdate today that Bosch ran into traffic.
Bosch has two potential adopters in the queue. One is waiting for a meet-and-greet, and the other is waiting to move from an apartment that doesn't accept pets to a house with a nice fenced yard.
For a "homeless" dog, this dog has been quite loved. For a dog of such a vilified breed, this dog has fared pretty well. Many people are concerned for this particular dog's well-being, and yet it seems his fate may come down to money.

UPDATE: Euthanasia is off the table. Suspected pelvic and organ injuries have been cleared. Surgery on his leg was successful, and he'll be in the hospital now for several days. Thank you for all of your support!
