So I've decided on being a paramedic until I can devote 3+ years of my life to nursing school. I have all the pre-reqs already so all I have to do is start my emt classes.

I'm stoked.

and no I'm not going to be like this...

they work insane shifts. 36-on, 36-off type things. some of the better firms have more humane hours. they're definately a fun bunch, though.

if your ultimate goal is nursing, have you looked into the LPN programs in your area as a step? the tech college i went to had an awesome program and every single person that graduated it got an offer no less than 45k. most were around 50k. And yeah, we're talking just LPN, not even RN. The demand right now is fucking ridiculous. If you're just starting out college then it takes 2 years fulltime, but if you've had things like your basic math, english, some bio and some a&p, it can take you a year or a year and a half very part time. my program was the electrical engineering tech and there were nothing but guys in it so i got to bond with the nursing girls pretty well. they all had major fun doing what they were doing because the nature of LPN was pretty hands-on from the get-go. Got to hear gross tales of phlebotomizing collapsing veins and giving crazy men cathedars. Some had their BS'es already and were looking for a quicker step to nursing, but some were just starting out. Don't know if you'd looked into that route yet, but it often college students just don't know that that route exists. Most LPNs go on to become RN's shortly after , but didn't want to stay in school that long without diving into experience and getting some money so they did the LPN thing first. And yeah, stay away from those "medical assistant" schools. They're a load of crap and can't get you certified to do anything.
Either way, I have mad respect for the nursing goal whichever way you finally get to it. I had no idea until last year that you could make 70k in the medical field doing shit like that, but it looks like finally nurses are getting what they really are worth.
