another bone-headed LJ policy change comes down

I wanted to make sure people saw this while it may still be possible for the decision to be changed.
they're going to take away the option for "unspecified gender" in new account signups.
I don't like it. it's discriminatory, unnecessary, and it leaves out people with a non-binary gender or gender identification! not to mention that it is none of their business.
existing accounts can still set "(unspecified)" at present but I'd imagine they will eventually decide to force a choice. while it is still possible to do so, I would encourage you to set your profile to "(unspecified)" (if it is not already) as a show of support and to poke holes in their stupid ad demographic data. tell your friends!
I also posted a comment over in the change announcement post and am encouraging anyone with a setting other than "(unspecified)" to change to that. let's get this fixed before people start leaving over it.
