Woke up this morning to snow! After breakfast we bundled up and headed out. Right past the genius at the end of the street who was using his water hose to clear away the snow in front of his house and ensure only a sheet of pure ice would remain. (This is the same fascist who watches us from an upstairs window when we take out the cats to see if he can find a reason to complain about them. Also a card-carrying member of the Japanese Garbage Nazis.) We went to the local shrine where we found a New Year's ornament in the hand-washing basin, and Yuki finally got a real taste of her namesake. Coming from TN, snow still elicits an automatic response that includes childlike joy and hope for no school.
