Asia Strikes Again

I really love nights like this when Little Bits goes down reasonably early and I know she is tired enough to stay there. I've been pretty strict about making her sleep in her own crib from the beginning instead of with us- I'm such a light sleeper that having her in the bed would ruin my sleep. Even having Soi in the bed makes me sleep less deeply. It's working; she sleeps in her crib and is getting to the point of being able to self-soothe if she wakes back up. Actually, she's so used to sleeping alone that she won't sleep well if I bring her in the bed. Anyway, I have a few moments before I need to get to bed myself.
Dinner was interesting tonight- last night Bits was grumpy and tired and wouldn't let me do anything. I desperately needed to get something done for dinner. Soi's mom had brought over a sealed pouch, rather large, filled with some kind of Korean soup, and I had put it back for just such an occasion, when merely microwaving something was a task that guaranteed a baby meltdown. Opened up the pouch...
...and found a whole tiny bird, raw, stuffed with rice, floating in broth.
I didn't know you could even do that with pre-packaged food. The expiration date wasn't for another year.
Looking at the picture on the package more closely, I realized that there was indeed a whole bird in the soup on the front. I had thought it was merely metaphorical. I should have known better. If Korea puts an animal in your food, you are damn well going to get the entire thing.
I just poured everything into a Tupperware and stuck it in the fridge; I added some vegetables and slow-cooked it today. It was so/so. The bones melted away as you were trying to pick the meat off, and the marrow was bitter. I've gotten used to fish bones but bird bones are still kind of gross. I'm a little suspicious as to exactly what kind of bird it was as well- it was about the size of two fists altogether, which seems very small for a chicken.

korea, food, weird, baby
