This weekend was awesome. Took my nieces to the water park outside of de Shwa. It was fun - my oldest niece Christine is turning 16 this November and is almost like a little human being. It's nice to be able to talk to her like an adult instead of a kid. She is a scorpio which means we're going to have a lot of fun once she gets older. Alexandra, the younger of the two is 12, and is, well.... difficult to relate to. She has all the people skills of a bag of hammers at this point in her life, but I suppose I can hope. I would imagine I was a bit of a handful in my larval stages.
After that I drove up to the cottage for a blissful weekend of reading Harry Potter 7, napping and eating. And its a funny thing - since my folks made me a partner in the cottage I've got this whole pride of ownership thing going on. I've taken it upon myself to beautify and increase the utility of some of the lake-front that is underused currently. I've launched a bit of a landscaping project and spent much of the weekend with a shovel in my hands moving earth. The idea is to turn a lumpy unused portion of the land framed by a 4' high section of natural rock outcropping into a bit of a sitting area. The plan is to move the top soil down to the bedrock (it seems to be mostly flat so far) and lay some flagstone natural to the area to give it a bit of a patio feel. Then I will finish it off by augmenting the semi-circle of stone by finishing it with a low stone wall to delineate the pation area. The effect once finished should be something vaguely reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings scene in Lothlorien when Frodo meets the Galandriel at the fountain to see the future.
