this is rather long, hope people take the time to read:
all i can say is: WOW! i have just had the most AMAZING weekend of my LIFE!!!! as you all know, if you have been arsed to read my livejournal recently (which judging by the lack of comments you probably haven't! grrr) that i've just been to glastonbury music festival!
i had the time of my life! we got there on the thursday afternoon, and as my brother and father were putting the tent up i got talking to this guy from aberdeen, calld tony, who was cooking sausages for his mate dave (who hadn't arrived yet) well in the end it turned out that he wasn't cooking sausages for dave, it was just to keep people off that part of the field!!! lol! anyway he told me a bit about how glastonbury's changed over the years, but there's still the same spirit. i should probably mention that glastonbury is like the spiritual home for hippies! and away from the music there is still a lot of new age/hippie type stuff around. you have like the area with all the stages, cinema etc. then it moves onto all the hippy type stuff, and all the weird and wonderful things! oh and greenpeace! heh ...
we were staying in the disabled camping area i should mention, so i spoke to a lot of other people with various disabilities. tony's wife has a slipped disk in her spine or something, she can walk but at times she has to use a wheelchair. hmm there was also a guy who had damaged his knee in a car accident and he was using crutches to get around because the uneven ground caused him pain when walking, but from using the crutches a lot he was getting blisters on his hands! so he couldn't really win either way... but from all the disabled people i met i don't think i heard a single complaint about the fact of being disabled, the only complaints were the way some people treat the disabled, and the fact that the disabled viewing platform was RIGHT at the VERY back of the field away from the stage!
anyyyyyyyyway! back to the good stuff! :)
thursday night, sleeping in the tent i was fucking freezing! and there was this REALLY creepy movie playing on the outside cinema which was really close to our camping area. the film was about god knows what, it was calld 'totally fuckd up', how fitting heh. but all i knew that happened was that someone had poisoned the water supply in london, killing loads of people. it had been blamed on iraq and so britain went to war with iraq (again)
i woke up on friday morning, and by this time the tent was swelteringly hot. i got up, dressed, washed, used the toilet etc then we headed off to the 'other' stage to see vex red play! my brother and dad really didn't like them but i was enjoying it, so i stayed for the rest of it while they went off to watch something else. then i met up with my dad after that to head off to the pyramid stage (the main one) to watch bush perform. i can't remember that much about bush, other than that the singer reminded me of kurt cobain :) i don't know if my memory of the event was affected by the amount of cannabis in my body.
after bush i think we went for some food then headed back to the tent, until the doves were on at 4. i can't really tell you much about the doves performance other than that i enjoyed it a lot, much more than their recorded stuff anyway. then at 7.35 ash were on! i don't remember much about that either lol, but they did play girl from mars, which i loved!
then i went from ash to see spiritualized at the other stage, rather than watch faithless. my mum and brother wanted to watch faithless, but i persuaded them to come with me to check out spiritualized (ha my mum's annoyd cos everyone says faithless were really good) well w/e cos spiritualized were AWESOME! literally, i was in awe at the sheer brilliance of their music, far more blissful than the absolutely beautiful stuff on their albums!
they started off playing something really slow and gentle, with synthesizer, windchimes, and i think there were four guitarists! the music was pretty simple, playing pretty much the same melody on the guitars, then changing to another melody, maybe upping the tempo... at times they broke into a really up beat rocky section, then suddenly they would break down to the really calm, enchanting melody again. a lot of the time the band were bathed in blue or white light, the lead singer wore a brilliant white suit, so he stood out from the rest. i love his voice. i don't know how to describe it, it's just so perfect for the music. i know the description i've just given doens't sound that exciting but it was a europhic experience for (but not quite as euphoric as what happened for the final act! HINT HINT)
heh at some point that day someone tried to break down the huge fence using a bulldozer, but failed miserably lol. that story is significant for this next part. we went to see COLDPLAY after spiritualized, now i've never really been that much of a coldplay fan but live i found them very moving. urm and i don't know what else to say really! i think it was when they played yellow that he stopped singing and just carried on playing the piano whilst the crowd finished the song for him.
wow this is a really long entry, you guys better read it or i might just not bother writing in this thing anymore and get a LIFE! lol!
jeez i'm only onto saturday! saturday was quite a gentle start. i was up by about hmmmm, midday maybe. could hear some beautiful music as i was getting up though. i love the way all this music floats across over the hills, music that i've mostly never heard before, that place was so alive! and thankfully the rain held off until we were leaving!
saturday i went up to greenfields (the spiritual/greenpeace part) with my uncle, cos i had some idea where i was going as i'd been with my bro and dad before (something i forgot to mention about friday, i think?!) on the way up i saw so much beautiful jewellery, i wanted to stop and buy something but there was FARRRRRR too much choice!!!! i also saw this little girl sat with her legs crossed playing some kind of flute, i think it was, only playing like nursery rhymes but i thought that was so sweet! :)
after taking my uncle to the stone circle, which is supposed to be sacred, we headed back towards the jazzworld tent to watch badmarsh and shri, an asian drum n bass act who i discovered from the now defunkt audiogalaxy. they absolutely tore it down! you should have seen the crowd they were TOTALLY into it, being driven by the beat that makes you just want to dance! these guys were amazing, i mean you could feel the bass going right through you!
shri played flute in some tracks, bass on another (even playing it with a bow like a violin on one track!!!!), beatboxing/mc'ing in another. he beatboxd and played the flute at the same time.... well like playd notes into it every so often... that took some SERIOUS talent! i LOVE live drum n bass!!!!! also they had this wickid mc who's name i THINK was peshay. when he was on he totally rocked the mic and got the party pumping again!
ok, saturday night (i hope you're still reading this!!!!!): went to see starsailor at 6.45pm for a little while before making our way back to the jazz stage for beverley knight ..... i can't believe we watched BEVERLEYfuckingKNIGHT when we could have been watching the WHITESTRIPES!!!! arrrrrrgh! but i had to go with them really cos i didn't know the way that well! anyway after her kosheen were on, i was really enjoying it but my uncle really wasn't feeling it! so after about 4 songs, we left to go across to see robert plant (from led zeppelin) in the acoustic tent, where my brother and dad were. couldn't see a damn thing! cos the tent was jam packed so me and mark (my uncle) just hung out outside, talkin about stuff.
omg and then after that the REAL fun started!! i went to the avalon stage to see OZRIC TENTACLES, i don't know what kind of music you'd class them as but it's kind of live drum n bass/rave music, with wailing guitars, synthesizers, flute and live drums. quite rocky at times actually, when they really get into the groove! i mean when they go for it there's so much energy in their performance! and then you've got the flashing lights, the wickid visuals on the screen behind them! i was seriously raving to it as much as i could given the fact that i have to sit down! the people around me were just stood there nodding their heads to the beat looking very stoned, and there's me sat in a wheelchair raised up so i can see the band, giving it my ALL! i enjoyed it SO much!
then they brought the tempo riiiiiiiiiiight dowwwwwn, with just a melody or simply chords on the synthesizer(s), the screen showing planets slowly swirling around, it reminded me in some ways of those little musical things that you put in a babies room, with a little light in it so it projects little stars onto the ceiling, the music like a lullaby. it was that kind of calming influence. to chill you out before the next awesome break! heh during the mellow section i leaned back into the chair and my uncle started massaging my head! i had tilted the backrest backwards a little so that i had more freedom to moooooove!
they finisd at urrrrrrrrm i don't have a clue when they finished actually! heh, but it was seriously wickid.
then we went off looking around various shops and just wandering getting hopelessly lost trying to find the way back to the fairy shop and to get back to the tent! heh, saw some AMAZING stuff that night, like those urm thingy ppl i dunno wot u call it, where it's like gymnastic type stuff, and they climb up a rope twisting and turning on the way up. then when there's a pair of them they climb between each other and the rope. does anyone know what that's called? or even know what i'm babbling about?! heh..... anyway hopefully i can post the pics online somewhere!
a load of other great stuff happened which i will continue to tell people if anyone shows any interest whatsoever, otherwise i will probably say more anyway just cos this is my journal so nyah :-p i love that place everyone was soooooo happy, this girl kept looking at my chair and i smiled at her so she smiled back, then every so often as she was walking past she would look again. she was such a cute kid! :-D i wish i cud have taken a photo of her cos she was just adorable! i did get a photo of her walking away tho cos i just wanted somethign to remember this really special kid that made me smile by! :) i wish i could have taken a photo of her smile tho! kids hey? aren't they just so precious?
it was weird, there were a lot of people who stood out to me, some for obvious reasons, some that i have no idea why they just stuck in my memory more than others, and i felt somehow like i already knew them, like i've met their soul before! with the two women who managed to arrange for something that made the festival have a fantastic end for me, called inga and izmee (however her name is spelt) i definitely felt it with them, like i'd met these people before, and i don't know what it was about them, they just seemed so familiar! there's a lot of stuff that happened that i feel fate planned for me.
i'll tell you what the WONDERFUL thing they arranged was if anyone bothers to reply to this!
"magic is happening... make a wish"
now someone reply to me otherwise i might get depressed again (emotional blackmail hehe) nah i'm kidding. i'm not depressed now and i have no intention of letting myself fall down again now! this last weekend has been fantastic, i've met some truly wonderful people, discovered a lost piece of my soul, seen my favourite band in the world in a very special way. been kissed by a fairy! heh
i remember when me and teeni were at the outdoors cinema watching the lord of the rings, i was really sleepy and i just lay back in my chair thinking about how wonderful everythign had been!
anyway, someone please respond! and if you got this far: well done! have a goldstar!!!!!
