New bird in the backyard
Narrow bill, small slight bird, dull brown/grey, white on tail covert.
Fast moving, very shy, keeps to the lawn, seems to hop and catch - insect eater?
I think we are in the warblers here, a female. Would she still be in summer plumage? Or do the birds transition to winter plumage before they start traveling the migration routes?
I'm not seeing any of the olive/yellows or any russet... somewhat bigger than the house finch.
I'm thinking a female black polled warbler. If I ever catch a look at her when she's not in flight, I'll be able to get better field marks.
All the same, any new bird in the yard is exciting.
