I was invited to join this group on facebook by my mormon acquaintance/ex HS friend who lives in Utah.
http://www.fightthenewdrug.org/ At first glance I was all "Augh! Another religious bullshit thing!!"
But then I took the time to read some of it (as I often do with propaganda) and while it's still a mormon control neo-jugend thing which I wouldn't dream of supporting, it definitely has given me pause. It's not black and white for me, because porn is an issue that I've never been able to quite wrap my brain around.
They make valid points about the abuse/escalation of neurotransmitters; Dopamine, Epinephrine, Seratonin, Oxytocin - all released during orgasm, and how the imprinting on a fake, flat image of an unobtainable and contorted stranger can seriously (and I believe permanently) damage our intricate brains in a very real way when abused.
I'm interested, as you are mostly generally sex-positive kinky folk... what are your thoughts on the ramifications of porn? And do you believe that it is an addictive substance?
Where is the line between occasional use and abuse? Can porn ever be healthy? Do you have lines for yourself that you enforce about time limits, frequency, method, or intensity? When would you consider it a problem?
Also, do you make a distinction between erotica and pornography? And how do know you've crossed the line between the two, and do you care?
I'm specifically not sharing my thoughts on my own feelings because I'd like to hear where you go with it. It may help me solidify my feelings into words in response.
