So here is the aforementioned cake pics post. I'm finally done with it, after 2 nights of work on it. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, especially for the first time working with fondant of any sort. I made the fondant myself using a recipe that involves marshmallows and a metric ton of crisco and confectioners sugar.. the recipe is
here, if you're interested. The intended object to copy..

Split, shaped, and filled
Thankfully, this was an easy shape to replicate.. perhaps that's why I chose it. ;)

Enrobed in chocolate buttercream!
I mean, who wouldn't want to be. ;)

Slab-o-grey marshmallow fondant
This stuff was tougher than it looked to knead and roll. It was really stiff after its overnight stay in the fridge. But, I needed the workout, so there.

Draped
I was amazed at how smoothly the fondant went on and just fell into place. I didn't have to cajole it at all. it was a little thicker than it should be for taste's sake.. but I just got really tired of rolling it out, and my counter was nearly completely covered. I'd say it ended up at just under 1/4" thick.

Final shape, with indentations
I made the indentations with my hand.. I was a little off on the line... oops. Ah well. Handmade will always have flaws, right?

The finished product
Here is what I ended up wiith. I think if I were to do it again, I wouldn't have piped into the impressions at the bottom - they just looked cool as-is. But it helps define the area, I guess.

Artsy angled shot
I like this view better - looks nicer. :)

Leftovers!
And the cool beans part is that we now have 3/4 of a cake left to eat. Woo hoo!

So there it is - my RNS cake. I could've done better on the proportions, the lettering, the flavor, and the logo. But that said, it's done, and it's kind of neat, if I may say so myself.
Now, if anyone wants to EAT a cake made in the shape of an implantable brain device, they now have the opportunity to do so.
