Ohio: Day One

May 30, 2009 02:57

I woke up to the house to myself, both my mom and brother were at work. It was difficult to wake up for two reasons. One, it was 10:30 eastern, which is about the time I usually wake up for work, something I have not been doing lately, obviously. Two, it was super-overcast and rainy. Still, I forced myself out of bed to enjoy some rainy, quiet, alone time, which I truly, truly did. Mom came home a few hours later and she made me some lunch, which we ate together and talked a little bit more. I retreated back to my normal thing of being upstairs and quiet, and she watched TV until it was time to pick up my brother.

When he got home, we talked for a little bit, he seemed to hover for a bit until I stopped being interesting/he got the hint. After his workout, I showed him my binder o' media, which he thumbed back and forth through for about half an hour. We had spaghetti for dinner, and then I got a call from my friends Joe and Justin, who wanted to do some hanging out. So I got ready and forced Marc to try something before I left. Justin took me out to Joe's place in Point Place, which looks kind of like the seediest/best kind of rib shack.

We made a quick beer run (after a slight joke, I opted to go with the tallboy Steel Reserve, which the clerk graciously placed in a brown paper bag for me), ordered up some Marco's Pizza, and watched a little TV before Joe got it in him to play some old school games. I'm pleased to report that a shot of rum and the bottom of the Steelie later, I was able to outperform him in Gradius 3, but he then humiliated me in front of God and his dog on Blades of Steel and Bases Loaded. I will seek redemption before my trip is through.

Everybody crashed out at his place, and I spent a good couple of hours trying to fall asleep very unsuccessfully. Right around 4:15 I finally drifted off, only to be woken up at 5 by a phone call from the boys back in Cruces, who wanted to tell me about the poker game I missed (props to Trent for the repeat, go figure) I semi-politely told them I was sleeping, processed the information, and hung up. I looked over at the TV and bullriding was on. Bull riding is very easy to fall asleep to, because I really didn't understand or care what anybody was talking about.

If I was confused, I would crack open an eyelid and remember I wasn't interested at all.
