(no subject)
news from the other side of the atlantic,...we've adopted a couple babies...Lea and Tigra (Tee-grah and roll the "r") ;)... the tiger twins we call'm ;) they're 8mth old twin kitty cats that look almost exactly alike.. the size, the markings..everything! there's one mark on Lea's face that's different from Tigra's and that is the ONLY way to tell them apart...they are always playing and making us laugh... they are the best combo of all the kitties i've met... we were very lucky to happen upon them. in other news, we rode with a couple of Maribel's friends to Gothenburg to attend SAMA (Swedish Alternative Music Awards)http://www.sama.mu/ fest on Friday... it all took place in a huge 3 stage venue called Tradgardenn and to the best of my recollection highlights were Necro Facility, Dupont, Covenant, Howard Jones and Fixmer/McCarthy... doooooooood.. Covenant blew all their asses away... I mean they totally kicked ass. It was a better show than when I saw them down in Austin in '98 on the Europa tour...and that too was fantastic... They played on the open-air stage (outside) -- it was just beginning to get dark and the weather was awesome..just chilly enough for a hoodie or wind-breaker.. we were sitting around a table having a beer or two... three...umm and then all of the sudden... booooooooom... big explosion from the stage and people were rushing from all sides... "the atom bomb explodes again...booooooommm...the atom bomb explodes again...booooooooom rumble rumble..." (if you haven't heard Shelter by Covenant then you don't have the faintest fucking clue what i'm going on about right now...) anyway, they kicked off their set with an oldie but goodie and it was just right.. they played some brand new songs that i got into as well (to give a short description,.. one had a very nice groove with lyrics sung by a robotic voice saying "where is the brave new world...") anyway, i can't fucking wait for the new album now. it sounds like it might be a little more aggressive than the one previous. they also played all remixed versions of other familiar songs from Dreams Of.. and Sequencer and Northern LIght... it was a fantastic set and their performance stole the night, if you ask me..
Necro Facility kicked ass but the frontman (he must've been only 19!) was a little too drunk and tried a little too hard to be eeevil :/ -- music was good though!
Dupont was cool... kind of an electro hybrid of Niter Ebb 'n' DAF... did songs mostly from their newest album Intermezzo.
Howard Jones was good.. he's 50yrs old now!..he played the hits Things Can only Get Better and WHat is Love.. etc etc.. his setup looked sorta like Peter Gabriel or something.. lots of keyboards, a DJ mixing in some nice electro beats and drum loops to make old stuff sound like new stuff... it worked!.. and a guitarist... HJ kept moving around the stage and actually played a lot of the parts on the keyboards.. fascinating to watch it.
Fixmer/McCarthy played at about 2am and by this time most were getting tired and superdrunk... but BLAM F/M blasted us back into movement with Nitzer Ebb hits like Join In The Chant and Murderous etc etc... They played inside on the mainstage and the lights were awesome.. and the sound was extremely good. We temporarily forgot we were tired and danced for another 30min but eventuallyhad to leave during their performance because we were pretty damn drunk and exhausted and we still had to walk all the way back to the apt where we were staying... Maribel's friends were a very nice couple, Jonathan and Silje.. we stayed at J's brother's apt and early the next moring we all took a walk around Gothenburg to see the sights.. It reminds me a lot of what San Fransisco might be like (never been) because there are a lot of trolleys ferrying people down the huge avenues. ahhhhhhh.. anyway,... couldnj't have asked for a better weekend... now this week i will go register for swedish course and look into some jobs that her friends have told me about. one looks promising but the other requires driving around the area (which i still don't know all the traffic rules, signs, words..etc etc) (that one probably won't pan out)... anyway, i'll post some pics when i can. no webspace right now and no damn scanner. me and Maribel send love...hope youre all doing well and be chill
