(For some reason, it makes me crazy when people post baby pictures on their Facebook pages. So I thought it best to share these here, since there are only a couple people who I think will appreciate how odd it is to see me pictured thus and most of them still use Live Journal.)
I went back east to Boones Mill, VA over the Memorial Day weekend. No, the mountains of Southwestern Virginia is not my ideal getaway for a holiday break (although I rather enjoyed the heat and humidity, which were a welcome change from Seattle's relentless gray maybe/maybe not weather). My brother and his wife had a baby girl in January, and she was being baptized. On the godliness scale, I rate much lower than my parents or sibling, but I knew my Mom was planning a big brunch (she also made the christening gown pictured at top) and thought this was as good a time as any to meet my niece. And while I rolled my eyes and made snarky comments when Mom (aka "Grammy") and my cousin Lisa (aka "Aunt Lisa") were fawning over young Madelyn and babbling baby talk, I'll admit that when we got some quality time together it was pretty magical. I look forward to being "the cool uncle" from the starting gun this time, although Lord knows what surprises a teenager in the 21st century will find to throw at me.
Also, I was delighted to hear from both my sister-in-law and my mother that the blanket I knitted for Maddie is much loved, by baby, parents and "Grammy" alike. Wow, all three generations? I don't suck.
