Back home again in Indiana

What a bittersweet mixture of comfortable relief and deep, deep longing for the state I left behind! Christine picked me up at the airport, neither of us had to wait a minute for the other, and we had a good drive home. Ate at IHOP before going our separate ways. She's had a tough week and still took care of her mom. That's the best way to ( Read more... )

We let a lot of years pass without keeping in touch like we should. She has a successful ad agency and a young daughter, she's married to Gary, a tv anchor, and I was busy too.

But when my world fell apart a few years ago, she came here to help me pick up the pieces and I have slowly come to understand how important your best friend is, and should be treated accordingly. Now we talk all the time, but more importantly, we see each other at least twice a year, even though we live a thousand miles apart.

I'm in love with North Carolina. My parents retired on the coast there, about 45 minutes from Pam. That's where I want to be someday. Now that my daughter is 19, she doesn't mind if I go. Who knows, she might even go with me. She loves it there, too.

But the point is, we DON'T live close to each other. We have to work at getting together and now that we've started doing this, I look forward to it more each time.

My flight roundtrip only cost $140 bucks. So one of these summers you should check out orbitz.com and see how much it would cost for you to jet somewhere so he can meet your old friends. :-)

Johns always talking about $99 flights to Indy. Chuck visited in 2003. He's talking about coming out again this summer. I may come back for my high school reunion in July, but thats still up in the air. I'll most likely come back by myself because we'd never fly together.
