Chelsmas Trip 2012!
Fri 21 Dec:
Took the day off work and departed at 4am via taxi just to find that the flight would be delayed an hour out of SeaTac to SFO. Elvis drove by on a unicycle to cheer us up. A bit later the same dude.. now a Starbucks Barista unicycled by asking who ordered a late. Very funny cute stunts for X-Mas at the old SeaTac.
When we finally arrived at SFO we had to exit terminal and head to international, so we had to wait in security all over again and now we had a tight connection on Singapore Air to Seoul. When we arrived at the Singapore gate they had us take our bag all apart claiming carryon roller bags had a weight restriction. I think our bag was at requirement it was crazy and making us later... they handed us a cloth bag to put our clothes in.. totally asinine?! When I got out of view I put my items back in my my bag it was so stupid!
We board the plane for Seoul to be a 13 hour flight, it was first delayed due to fog, ok, then was delayed for mechanical, then again, we were sitting on the plane so long the 13 hour flight turned 16 hours-- 3 hours late?! Now we are starving it is like 5:30pm our time and we only had bfast due to the tight connection in SF.. oh the travel joys I try to brush off but getting starving and angry.. Of course the crew serves the special meals first and by the time we get our food and drink I'm famished and order two drinks, the FA had a bit of a attitude, I did not appreciate it, esp after hearing Everyone RAVE how great Singapore Air is I so far was not excited. Top that off we arrive to Seoul and can't find our luggage.. this is the luggage that we have to check due to liquids, otherwise, I would not even ck a bag.. evar! Not only does it have toiletries, it has gifts, cold medicine and neosporin that our pals ordered as they live in KR now with a picky 5 year old that only likes his Tylonal Kids medicine and other wish list items they asked us to bring from US. My heart is breaking, as they are here to meet us and all their items are the ones lost in my LOST luggage, along with X-mas/Hostess gifts I had for them.
(We flew into Sat 22 Dec arriving in the evening.)
Danny meets us at Baggage Claim and after filling out the LOST Luggage report we take a hour long express bus and then a subway ride to his place out in the burbs of Seoul where my pal (who we have not seen in many years since old Minneapolis days) is a professor in English teaching Korean students. He has lived here with his wife and son for about 8 months. We have never met his new family yet all these years, so this was pretty exciting. Danny was there for our wedding in PA in 96 so he is a old buddy!
Danny has preloaded Metro cards for us so we can jump right in to using Seoul's excellent transportation system, they do not have a car so they know it well. After the bus and subway to his stop we walk in the brisk icy streets towards his school where he works, lives and teaches. They have a very modest dorm-like home and we sleep in the livingroom, the bed is ready and lil one is asleep already so we knock out as well, it was already nearing midnight. We were hitting about 24 hours awake time so we sLept like a rock until 10a the next day. Our hosts were too kind letting us sleep so long. There son was ready to play already!! LOL!
