Annual Coastal Clean up was a Success!
http://www.coastsavers.org/washington.html Beach Clean up last weekend was great fun although it rained like a banshee and the wind.. eww it was nasty! We hike just over a mile to the beach so there was some solace from the wind while int he trees. While cleaning up the beach you try to focus on the cool trash and treasure you find but it was a wind stinging rain.. We cleaned up two tires, lots of Korean water bottles, floats and random trash like shredded fisherman boots. Not a day for fair weathered campers, I guess as most people left after the clean up due to the nasty weather. It was good to see they stayed and cleaned though. I was so sore from carting a small tire over my shoulder, like crazy sore. ow. Afterward, we had a free BBQ at Three Forks, courtesy of Surriders again like they provide every year and we tend to run into some of the same peeps year after year. I love this tradition. It is priceless to enjoy the pristine beach after our efforts-- is so worth it.
The next day was gorgeous and sunny.
We laid on the hot stones at the beach in t-shirts. I bet the others wish they stayed. It was so nice we did not leave until like 4pm. While driving through Port Angeles we realized we were way hungry and found a great place to stop for food on the main drag. We picked up Mike along the ride home in our van, he is a cool bicycle guy we know who rides to the clean up from the ferry. We saw him outside of Sequim, it was late and he would be riding in the dark. He was thankful for the lift even though it was only for a few more miles (in comparison to what he rides. However, riding in the dark is scary on that highway). We dropped him at international district and he was going to bus home. He really goes the extra mile taking only bike and bus to the clean up. We meet some interesting people - diehards i'd say hehe ;)
More Earth Week:
I rode my bicycle two times to work this week, Yay! (about 24 miles RT) I am finally getting on track with that and hope to up it to 3. So I put in about 48 miles this week and hope to bike tomorrow too. With gas at 3 bucks it helps motivate me to ride. Also it is a GREAT stress reliever from the JOB. whew >:) I don't think I'll do STP this year though, maybe do Flying Wheels a nice century(a less crowded ride) as well as other bicycle camping adventures to the islands again this year.
Happy Earth Week!
