I'm back...well, sort of...

When I went in for my training camp physical, the doctors found a couple of tears in my left retina. Major shock! I was terrified! I still don't know how it happened and I didn't have any symptoms, but the surgeon said it had to have been a hard blow to the eye area. Apparently, it happens to about one in every 10,000 people, but most of the people are in their 70s. *I* am not that old yet, but I guess I must have gotten a knock and not realized it.

Anyway, they did surgery that same day and I ended up spending three days laying on my back staring at a ceiling fan. The docs said that I couldn't really move around much at all because the retina had to flatten back out. The second day, I got a People magazine and held it up over my head. But that was it. I had to keep reminding myself that I'd heal quicker if I stayed put. Boring! But I want to get well as soon as possible! And it seems to be paying off, because I've been cleared for light exercise on the stationary bike a week sooner than the docs originally predicted. My vision is still a little blurry in the left eye and I've got to take a bunch of eye drops four times per day, but the docs say that's to be expected.

Luckily, I think I can make it back closer to 4 weeks instead of six and not miss any of the regular season. Karlis keeps telling me to wait and make sure I'm completely OK and I keep telling him I'm fine. I love him for how worried he is, but I feel pretty good. I think this is going to be fine, which is a huge relief.
