Reading and writing music

I need to relearn how to read and write music. There's been some interesting compositions floating around in my head and I have no way to document them. I could read music when I did band and jazz band in middle school but I've forgotten it all by now. Too bad my seven year old self couldn't be bothered to sit still long enough to persevere in piano lessons. :)

One of these days I'll get my hands on Cakewalk or Sound Forge and spend some time playing around with it.
