News You Can Use

Now here's something I really wouldn't mind having on my cell phone:

It alerts you to the flu in an area. For people who tend to catch anything and everything like me, this is a work-saver and life-saver. This does not mean I am going to buy SARS masks. You'd catch me dead before I ever wore one of those voluntarily.

I'm not the most savvy person when it comes to making my cell phone awesome. I've got "Isolated" by Chiasm (catchy tune found in the VtM: Bloodlines computer game) as my generic ringtone and haven't changed it for over a year. Once I figure out how to make my own free ringtones from mp3 samples on my computer, I'll fix it up a bit.

Even so, I am glad technology like this is developing. Maybe they'll even have access to the allergen forecasts (even though I'm not affected by this) that The Weather Channel puts out for stuff like ragweed and pollen.

This puts a whole new meaning behind the conjecture of:

"Something's going around. I probably caught it."

"You really think so?"

"Yeah, too bad I didn't read this before I went out a few nights back."

It's just one of those interesting gadget features that I enjoy reading about.
