He turned around at the sound of the grass rustling, and time diulated. Under the cover of night, he only saw the faint outline of one of his pursuers and the barrel of the gun pointed at him, laser searching for a target.

With a brief exhale, he brought up his gun, shutting his right eye, and aimed. He inhaled just as the figure pulled the trigger.

Click.

The barrel flashed three times. Pop. Pop. Pop.

Kento stepped back, puzzled as he was tapped three times. The figure staggered towards him and he raised the gun again, the slide clicking. He started to turn again, but his feet were planted firmly to the ground. There was a surge of cold air and pain when he breathed again, and he instinctively glanced down, gravity pulling on him. He felt three strange holes on his chest, and glared at his bloodied hand.

What concerned him most though as the trees and sky grew longer , he could not hear the sounds of the jungle, see the enemy, taste the tang of blood, or feel his heart beat.

No, he was dead.
