HELL BENT
She began her day as she always did. Before the sun rose, she walked to her cell door, letting her hands slide through the slot. The person on the other side would pull her shackled wrists towards them and would remove the bindings. Quickly she would pull her wrists back as the door would slide open. From there, the always too cheerful Bethany Sloan, a mindless drone, would appear in front of her with a folder in hand.
“Good morning Darcie, here are your assignments for the day.”
Though the words would effortless leave her mouth, Darcie never meant any of them. “Thank you and good morning.”
If she were to respond the way she wanted, the woman would either simply be dead on the floor or a “Die and Rot” would suffice. From there she was marched down to the bathroom facilities where three guards would watch over her as she started her routine. She would ready herself for the work day, then off to the cafeteria for a small breakfast then she would be released to the floor.
She had it lucky; thankfully the one thing that science could not take away from her was her natural seduction and manipulation. Darcie was never more grateful to truly be Odile, the Black Swan. A gifted seductress and though she did not have access to her magic anymore, she didn’t need it. She had these fools eating out of the palms of her hand. It was all apart of her grand scheme, the one thing she was hell bent on doing was to get out of this place. This company, it mocked the very word, it was a torture chamber disguised as a medical research facility.
For hundreds of years as the beings of the Enchanted Realm slipped into this world were hunted down by this so called Company. Through the passing decades they learned how stop magic and continued to use the beings as test subjects. Currently their pet project was a man who was damned as The Beast. His real name was Adam but if you looked at his paperwork (which was forged) he was known as Joshua Callahan. The man had been prisoner for going on 15 years, since he had slipped through this realm which was on accident.
She had fallen through about the same time and had been brought in with him. She watched as he screamed in agony as his body shifted back and forth between man and beast before they did anything to help him. When he had fallen to his knees, flesh instead of fur, they attached something to his wrist and the changing stopped. He had thanked them, not realizing that they were not there to help him. But at the time, neither one of them knew what was happening.
With a shudder Darcie pulled herself from her thoughts as she headed into her cubical where she flipped open the file. Sighing she saw that the poor bastard was up for another surgery today. They were constantly operating on Adam, opening him up, taking his blood, and torturing him. She was surprised he was alive half the time. Scanning the list, she found her other conspirator was up for another evaluation.
The woman who had cursed Adam, a dark fairy known as Mala, had been locked away under heavy sedation for 30 years. It seemed she had opened the portal that Adam had fallen through, knowing one day he would end up finding it. When she arrived here and killed three people, they immediately brought her down to the sublevel and kept her in a padded room. Bound in a straight jacket with the strongest drugs they had, she was only given a first (fake) name. They called her Rose and kept her away from everyone. They feared her as much as they feared the Beast she had created.
Little did The Company know that Odile, Adam and Mala had been working on a plan for the last five years that would ensure their escape. So far it was working flawlessly and within the next 24 hours they would be free. Darcie felt a thrill of excitement within her at the thought of running free of this place. She had read so many reports of others being in this Realm and had located a list. They were far and wide but they were her people. Though she was an enemy in the Enchanted Realm…well misunderstood really, here she would be a friend. The true foe was humanity and those with their names attached to The Company. She had been sending out secret communications to the others, who helped her set up a path and gave her a name of a safe haven. A place in Maine called Storybrooke.
The first person they would rendezvous with would be Liliana who was technically the Princess of the tale Princess and the Pea, or so the records stated. From there they would move on up to Aladdin, or Zakai Jindal who would accompany them to Lisa Munroe’s home. She was so well hidden and protect that it was only assumed she may be Thumbelina, no one had been able to get closer than that. Then up the Coast to Vanessa’s home, another one they would be perfectly safe with. Given she lived on water and she was truly Ursula, the sea witch, she was only kept under minimal surveillance because she had killed everyone who had come to her.
As the hours past and the power flickered, she found herself shivering. She knew it meant that Adam was in surgery and that if they had to use that much power, that fast, they probably almost killed him…again. She had never let herself become attached to anyone in the other realm, mostly because her father would just make them suffer whenever she failed him. But here, away from him, she found herself sympathetic to the Beast’s plight. Mostly because she knew what it was like to be abused and misunderstood. She had vowed to him that when they got out, she would do what she could to help him have a happy end. Unlike the lies she told to everyone else, she found herself meaning it more deeply with each day that passed.
When the clock was up on her work day, she headed back down to her room, passing the surgery center. She could smell the blood and thanked the Gods for her timing as they pushed Adam through the door. Staying completely stoic, she looked down at the Prince. He was almost completely nude, except for a small gown that was over his hips and draped to his knees. His skin was covered in sweat and blood. There were fresh stitches above his heart, his breathing was slow and labored. Her anger boiled within.
One day she would burn this place to the ground and send it to hell where it and all its workers belonged.
--HELL BENT--
Adam didn’t know what time it was, but the loud blaring alarms told him that something was going down. The pain that burned within his chest was almost unbearable but if this was the night, he’d have to push past it. With a grunt he heaved himself to his feet, hobbling weakly to the door.
“HEY!” he shouted through the door, “HEY!”
His chest burned, his knees gave way, causing him to collapse to the floor. “Yo, Princey, all hell is breaking loose, I think you may appreciate it.”
The voice through the door he recognized, she was a young woman working as a guard. She looked about 18 but she was so highly skilled she was known as one of the best defenses that The Company had. He had seen her guarding him but never stopped to interact with her. It was because he was forbidden to speak. Unfortunately that was always a part of his curse even in the Enchanted Realm. He was made to seem as slow as he looked, unable to use his education or wits.
“Who…”he began, surprised as the door opened.
She stood there in a black cat suit, long dark hair tied back, lips painted a glittery green. Usually it would be odd but instead she pulled off. There was a large ‘O’ on her necklace with a ‘Z’ in the middle. She grinned at him, with a jerk of her chin she brought his attention to her face. “Name’s Geri here but you can call me Jinjur. I’m infiltrated from the land Oz to give you guys a hand. We’ve been monitoring the Company and have worked with the Black Swan and the Enchantress to free everyone tonight. Due to your injuries you will not be able to take the portal to Oz. Hell, it’s a journey even on someone who is healthy.”
“Why?”
She grinned, “It’s a summoning storm, we call forth a tornado that will take who we chose into our land and then we will seal it off to make sure no one comes in and out anymore. We thought we had put a stop to that with the last Slipper but these guys found a way to break the seal but thankfully they are stupid enough to trust me. Humans.” she laughed, it was a rich and throaty sound.
Adam felt his chest ache to the point he couldn’t see straight but she still didn’t reach out to help him, but instead kept looking out the door. “What?”
“Odile and Mala are taking their sweet time,” she snapped.
The only emotion that could cut through the intense pain was fear. Though a supposed Beast, he was a gentle giant. Though the tales of this would had reduced him to the worst of the cliché, he would never harm anyone. He didn’t have him in it; he wasn’t a war monger and would only raise a hand to defend himself. But he would have to be pushed to that and hadn’t yet in all his years. He feared Mala because he knew what even the slightest offense against her could do. He was living proof of that. When she had demanded his hand in marriage, he refused, knowing that she was not his one. She was a ruthless woman, cruel as she was beautiful but he needed more than that. She screamed in fury when he denied her, then her staff came down upon his head, shattering his skull. He the floor hard, when he was finally able to try to get up, he realized he could no longer lift up his body weight. Catching one of the mirrors that had mostly survived he let out a cry at the sight of his new form, the cry came out as a hideous roar. It broke him. Had he not been promised that one day the curse would break by his Guardian Fairy, he would have taken his life ages ago. Now death seemed most welcome.
“She’s working on getting you to safety and has promised to no longer pursue you. She had other people she wants to take care of and first of all, this Company. And you know Odile, you’ve seen her. She’s the one who has been given the most freedom of those of us they use as agents. Thank the Gods she has that unnatural seduction ability or we’d be screwed right now.” She explained, then suddenly shouted. “Jeeze! Take your time, you two!”
He heard something rolling towards the room and Jinjur jumped out of the way. Suddenly two blondes were lugging him up and into a wheelchair and racing down the hall. Jinjur raced ahead, any person that camera that was still functioning she shot down and Lord help any person that crossed her path. He watched through blurred vision and an already upset stomach as a man came out of nowhere. She immediately sprang into action, her foot connecting between his legs. Once he was down, she pulled a knife and slammed it through his neck. He watched as she turned the blade, the man’s blood spraying on the white walls. She took his gun, chuckling as she spun it on her fingers.
Another appeared, then another. Jinjur looked at them, grinning, gun in one hand, blade in the other. “Go! I’ll find you guys! I’m about to have some fun!” she laughed wickedly. The last thing he saw of her was her pulling the trigger and someone’s brains exploding against the walls and the person’s coworker.
The rest was a blur as the women got him outside and once they were, he felt the familiar pull of magic. Then there was nothing.
