For this Moment
As long as you’re mine

Note: I do not own “Once Upon A Time” and I do not make a profit from writing this story. I’m just amusing myself.

Summary: A shared moment of peace during the war.

His face was buried in his hands as he sat hunched in front of the fire. Exhaustion and weariness radiated off of him. The sight surprised her; she was not used to her fiancé looking so defeated. Belle continued to him, dropping down next to him. She placed her hands on his arm, resting her forehead on his forearm; his free hand came over, and cupped her face. Belle did not have to ask what was wrong, they both knew the answer.

War. The War was lost; their walls could only do so much. He sighed softly, raising her chin so he could look into her face. Her hand landed on his cheek, she rubbed her thumb across the soft flesh. She felt tears prick her eyes and she swallowed hard. She didn’t want to die; she still had so much she wanted to do. She wanted to travel the world with her husband, and then eventually settle down with him.

“Come to bed,” she whispered.

She stood, crossing in front of him, she reached out her hands. Once he placed his hands in his, she helped him stand, as their fingers entwined she brought him back to her room. As they crossed the threshold, she closed and barred the door behind them. He sat down on the edge of the bed, removing his boots. She looked on sadly as he didn’t even bother to remove any of his clothing. He simply lay against the pillows.

Following suit, she climbed onto the bed, making her way to him. Belle found herself lying on her side, curving her body to his. She nestled her face in the crook of his neck and breathed. Drawing in the scent of his skin, feeling the warmth radiating from him, she felt at peace.

“I love you,” he whispered, pressing his lips to the top of her head.

Without a second thought, she echoed him back. Most days she loved him, there were days where she didn’t and he knew he felt the same about her. But she knew that he made her happy, when they had been younger, in the days before the war, he had been a brutish and crass. Thankfully he had grown and had matured into the man lying next to her; she knew he was the right choice for her.

Belle sighed in contentment as his arms slipped around her, his forehead coming to rest against hers. These were the only moments she felt safe. He was always there for her, he would always keep her safe, and he would always love her.

“Gaston?” she asked, he opened his eyes and looked at her, seemingly just as content as she was, “May I ask you something?”

He peered at her curiously, “Anything,” he replied.

“Do you think it will ever end?” she found her voice shaking, usually she would hate that she seemed weak but she was too exhausted to care.

He thought for a moment, “One day it will, we will win,” he said, he sounded so sure that she found herself believing his words.

“Merci,” she whispered, leaning up she pressed her lips to his.

It was soft, gentle and there was promise of so much more in that kiss. And as he gently broke it, she saw that he was smiling, something she was starting to rarely see. It pained her, since it was such a lovely smile. She wanted the evening to progress further, to know what his flesh felt on hers, but she shoved away the thought. Now was not the time, though with the war, she assumed that could be the wrong train of thought. But given how he didn’t press further, she realized being held by him was enough for the moment.

Just a simple moment I wanted them to share, I never thought I'd ship Belle/Gaston but I totally did. I will never ship Belle/Rumpelstiltskin. EVER. That isn't Belle, it's an insult, sorry but it is to me.
