..but this time it's about the music.
Down-to-the-wire, demo in a style I don't do much. I have this promoter named Marcus in Springfield who has got me an in with some crew down in CT, but somehow (through their preferences or how he pitched me), they want me to bring a DnB demo. The last one I did was the Loopz mix, which although great, has glitches and music from WAAAY back. Their next party is tomorrow night in CT, and I have to bring demos. YIKES! But it'll get me out of the house, and kick my ass into gear doing a new mix, and I think I've talked to or seen the name of "Miss Eyezis" (I remember she spells it oddly) somewhere, and that's who I'm supposed to be talking with. Somehow, I again think a female DJ collective/collaborative would be great, but the great female crew names are already taken (ie: "Suck My Deck" out of Dallas, although I don't know how much they do these days since Sarahtonin went all big boobs and LA on people; and "Chicks with Decks" - Ahhh...the fun with names!).
Thus I drop 100 bucks on new and classic tracks (two actually listed in the catalog as "rave anthems" complete with the hoovering and all) and there's two mashups - one with DJ Assault's "Ass n Titties" and another with "Whoomp" and some song from the 80's I can't remember the name of (I'm pretty sure it's "Go", and no, not the Moby song) and at first I thought Shriekback for artist but now I can't remember. It's going to be a bitch to figure out, and it will drive me nuts as I do this mix. But it will be a good mix. I have some awesome DnB nuggets and the one time I pulled them out in Oklahoma one night at an all-female party (decent attendance, actually), I had a lot of people totally enthused, but complaining they were tired from dancing too much!! OTOH, I realized I lean heavily on the jump-up style, so I'm trying to vary it up a bit, like I do in the other styles. Got some High Contrast tracks, London Elektricity's "Billion Dollar Gravy" on vinyl - yaaay! - and a song by a vocalist called Nicolette called "I'm Where the Party's At" - I know where the transition to those booty tracks is going to go... LOL
If anyone remembers the song that you probably thought was called "yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah" and has a chorus that goes "Living it up is a big kick that's good for you" or something like that, LET ME KNOW, or I'll be forced to find the bin with the retro and dig through till I find it. GAAAH!
Slaya - you're going to love this mix. :)
Plus, I'm so cool I may throw more than one ghetto tech number in there (not the mashup) for good measure.
