Midterms, and life still throwin' them punches...

...PASSED MY RECORDING ONE MIDTERM!! Not an A, but 80% and I did very well overall, understand and feel confident going into studio C the second half of the semester. Now I just have the 8 track mix to do for next week (already turned in my three page paper on Nigel Godrich who is my hero) and I'm done and ready (sort of) to head down to Florida and settle dad's matters.

Got an A on my History of Mass Media midterm - and it's always nice when the teacher says she saved yours for last because she knew she'd enjoy reading it (we have great conversations after class about this stuff). There are some real slackers in that class who aren't even trying, a few F's (more than A's) whereas her other class had lots of A's and B's.

Got home to a box. From Merritt Island Fl. Inside? A basic training book from a Naval Basic traning center in Illinois (Great Lakes) from 1961. Now I know my father at least went through naval basic training in April of 61. Now it's another puzzle to unravel. Another reason to be pissed at my mother - when I was going in the Air Force, she was all "oh, your Uncle Danny went in the Air Force too) and never said a word about my father having been in the service. Whatever, I'll find out myself. The box also contained the title to the RV, his death certificate (I have NEVER seen a death certificate without a cause of death listed) and I know where he's buried and who buried him (the funeral home). I also found a certificate that shows my father was a licensed private pilot (1975) and it made me feel better - that sounds like something that someone would really want to do, and he went and did it. I've wanted to learn to fly a plane since my two friends at Kirtland (Albuquerque) who were both private pilots took me for a ride (each of them) in their Cessnas. I loved it. Always have. :)

I have his nose. I have his ears. It's amazing how basic training pictures show all those features (with no hair - LOL). His lips also look a lot like mine (which makes sense, my mom always had skinny lips and elf-like ears and a pointy nose) so I know where those came from. :) Round round round face. That's me. :)

Going down to FL is going to be both fascinating and really damn hard emotionally, but I'm ready for it.

What else - bought a shelving unit from the Container Store that is three bins that are deep and 8" tall (white) and can hold up to 500 pounds a shelf. Perfect. I put the first one up and got ridof all the clutter on my studio floor *plus* another two crates from in the dining room (about time, right Cait? :). May go back and get the other one next week - there's room for two. Pictures will follow soon. Now Arathin can just come over and enjoy my company and make me a nice small chest of beatuiful wood at some point to keep all the keepsakes from my father's stuff. That would be perfect.

And now, I go to renew my tag (Brookline parking nazis can kiss my ass, *grumble*) :)

As my therapist said, I'm taking it one thing at a time, it's the only way to do this. Thanks to everyone who's called or posted their concern and support. I love you guys. :)
