So, I'm encoding my library of music to computer. As I've been ripping the CDs, I've been picking songs to load on my portable drive with an eye to using them for actual gigs. I broke them down by categories, although my categorization skills sometimes make sense only to me.
With my recent purchase of the XBOX 360, I realized that I could use this drive to load up all the Dexter that I got from the interwebs and watch it on my TV. That was S's idea. Then I realized that I can listen to the music files on the 360's music player.
There's one folder that I've been listening to this afternoon, and thinking of things I want to put on a CD for S to listen to. He's been woefully underexposed to cool music, and has a tendency to like some things that show me a whole slew of things he'd appreciate if I played them for him. Giving someone a new song or artist to enjoy and fall in love with is almost as good as having them fall in love with me - maybe better, really.
Reading an entry from the lovely
nerak_g I have encountered the term Mamihlapinatapai (sometimes spelled mamihlapinatapei) which loosely translates to "a look shared by two people with each wishing that the other will initiate something that both desire but which neither one wants to start."
It just now struck me - so much of the stuff in this particular folder (which I labeled "Ambient/Leftfield") is perfect for a mix that makes me think of this term.
What a great idea.
