Hey, but, and I am bored at work and up for cheeky banter and discussion (maybe you can give me a slap on Saturday if I push my luck), but here's my smugly clever response:

if you don't like categories don't use them! (But then how would anybody know what you were talking about?! "I went to this club last night, they played good music".)

Expect Nathan to ask if it's 'white' or 'pink' noise.

Also zombies! Punch the zombies!!!

It can suck when it gets down to silly subgenres such as "hellektro" and "terror EBM" but I'm feel quite strongly about the noise word! If it's noise with beats it's not "noise" anymore, it's music! Industrial, gabba, breakcore, whichever kind of electronic noisy music, but not noise. Even structured stuff like power electronics and death industrial is not noise. You know all this! You're a man of influence, a valuable contributor to the "scene", you can help reverse things and stop cyber gothics saying "noise" 'cos it sounds glamorous but they actually mean some kind of industrial techno.

i say noise as a catch all including PE, Noise, Rhythm Noise, powernoise and noisecore as i like the whole 'Noise' genre not just sub categories thereof.

When kids say noise its only cos its shorter than saying powernoise or rhythmnoise - which is what they actually mean

i think you have something there mate, maybe you should start a forum or something!

And thatnks for your positive comments, nice to know some people appreciate the effort!

That's what I'm trying to get at! Noise is noise and those other genres could be included in the broader genre "industrial". The point being that noise is harsh sounds without structure, repeition or rhythm; when you put those in you get music. So noise is related to industrial but easily separated from. Wouldn't split noise into subgenres.

I'll just about accept "rhythmnoise" for rhythmic industrial but not powernoise, you can't be more powerful than noise! I'll blame the Yanks for that one. Seems to definitely be a misnaming problem of the anglophone countries, in Germany they don't seem to mix up industrial and noise so easily.

Yes, I am bored at work and still several hours before my flight to Luton, I will see if I can make a discussion on my journal, but few seem to be reading recently. See you Saturday at Slimey (oh why couldn't the Czechies have their public holiday next week?!).
