Divine and Fanfictions... They don't seem to get along
Being the ungrateful fan brat that I am, I wanted to being up something I've noticed whenever i read a fanfiction where Divine is involved. Now, although my OTP is DivAki (Psychicshipping), I too also like YuAki (Faithshipping), but as I read a few on Fanfiction.net, I've noticed a recurring theme when Divine gets in to the story. Even thought each story is somewhat different from each other, there are themes that keeps appearing; Let me break it down for you:
1) Divine: WORLD'S MOST HEARTLESS MAN... EVUR!
Yup, so far, all the stories that Divine is involved in, he is depicted as a cruel, evil, sadomasochist asshole. Some fics have him abusing Aki for some reason, thus making Aki want Yusei to swing in to save the day. Usually, in the T or M rated fics, the writers seem to make him have this evil plot to separate Aki from Yusei, by either having him threatening her or beats her... violently! So far, there are 2 fics where Divine beat the ever loving crap out of Aki (usually bashing her head against the walls). Now here's my question, WHERE DO THEY GET THIS CRAZY IDEA?! Not once in the anime has Divine ever treated Aki this way. I've seen all the episode where they interact with each other, and not once has he even hurt her. Some would argue that since he was willing to kill Yusei and admit to killing a young boy (which is still debatable, in my opinion), Divine loves to slap Aki around and calling her names like "whore" or "slut". If Divine have really hurt Aki during her stay in the Arcadia Movement, why didn't she say anything? If I may recall, in episode 42, when Aki saw the videos of the experiments, she still didn't get made at Divine because he was there to save her for the world that hated her. He gave her a place to call home, they shared something in common. And haven't you noticed that he never conducted an experiment on her? So that only means that he never laid a finger on her.
2) OMG HE'S A RAPIST! D8
Now this on bugs me to no end, any sex fics between these 2 (outside of my own and a friend of mine) is when he rapes her like a sex driven monster. He'll slap her around, beat her, pop her cherry, keep roughing her up, then bash her face in... really? Again referring to the first theme, he is willing to punish Aki for leaving him for the Signers. I mean REALLY! that is really OOC (Out Of Character) of him to do that, he's not that barbaric. He's cunning, yes, but not an total monster!
3) SHOOT HIM DOWN!
Yes... What's the best way of getting rid of an unloved character who gets a bad wrap for things, YOU SHOT IT! Towards the end of a chapter where Divine is about to finish off Yusei, he gets shot by someone else, and here's the formula: Divine and Yusei fight, Yusei is cornered, Divine puts a gun, Divine mocks Yusei, a sound of a gun going off is heard, Yusei thinks he gets shot but is ok, Divine is shot dead, then everyone is happy.... then cake. Seriously, why can't they just arrest the guy, and give him a fair trial and let the judge decide his fate? Ok so he has a gun, police are trained to handle armed people with killing them; Shooting them down is a last resort, and usually it's not a fatal shot, just to subdue them. But no, he might be shot down as soon as possible! In another fic, he doesn't get shot, but gets killed in a bad car accident... How lovely
4) Aki's having Divine's baby?! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!
Now this cold. So you're going to sit there and tell me that Divine is forbidden from fathering a child?! Usually, Aki get's pregnant with Divine's baby because he rapes her. Now i'll be honest, rape is one of the most horrible thing to ever happen to a woman, and getting pregnant from it can be such a burden. Getting an abortion is really hard to conclude as a solution, and i don't want to get into this topic too much. Some women would keep the baby because it's not the child's fault, but let's end it here before i say something wrong .-. Anyway, Aki seems to jump to the conclusion the baby MUST BE GONE, but never give a good reason. What if the kid is completely different from his father? what is it exactly that make her want to kill his baby, but then a month later is over joyed that she's having Yusei's baby! A friend of mine told me about a fic where Aki GRABBED A F*CKING PAIR OF SCISSORS AND STABS HER WOMB AND KILL THE BABY! And how does Divine response? he threatens her, and tell her that they make other one... ==; Grant it, i haven't read all of the fic, mainly because it's a 20 chapter fanfiction that's written in German, but that right there was really f*cked up. In another fic that is being continued, Aki just cried to her mother that she want to get rid of it. So i guess the only real answer why she hates the baby is because it's Divine's baby.
In conclusion, the Faithshipping fanbase seem to really got out of their way to make Divine a real douche bag. I should also note that these types of fics uses the 4Kids' dubs as their source as Aki is called "Akiza" and Divine is called "Sayer"; that's already a bad start. Now I'm not saying that they should change their fics, but next time, don't make him a total ass bitter. Yeah, I know he's a villain, but it's not like he's the son of the DEVIL!
