Grindhouse double bill: Planet Terror + Deathproof

Tonight was the UK premiere of Grindhouse - a double bill of Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino's Deathproof introduced by the lovely Edgar Wright - half the reason for going ;) So glad I went (thanks
missy_manic for telling me to get tickets for us both, I almost didn't). Both movies are very funny, Planet Terror especially. I now understand why Rodriguez and Tarantino were annoyed at the decision to release these films separately in the UK as it loses the whole atmosphere of the two movies tributes to 70s b-movie cinema releases in the US. Deathproof out of context would make very little sense, so its' not surprising that it didn't do so well in the UK reviews. Thankfully they've corrected it with this limited Grindhouse release now. I liked how both movies had two characters and a location that cross over. :)The fictional trailers for upcoming attractions, advertisements, and in-theater announcements were just as entertaining as the two movies themselves. Watching Edgar's trailer for Don't both myself and
missy_manic recognised that one of the woman from Man Stroke Woman was in it. Edgar listed a whole bunch of names who appear in it including Mark Gattis who I didn't spot till after Edgar mention him. Also, Peter Serafinowicz who I can't spot in the trailer but it wouldn't surprise me if it's him doing the voice over.
Whilst there I met two fans from the Peggster.net forum - Bry and Jo who were lovely. And Michael "Sock Puppet" Eckett who I keep bumping into at all things Wright or super hero related! The last time we bumped into each other was
Spaced on Stage @ BFI and before that
Spider-Man 3 and Superman Returns UK premieres.
At the end of the night amongst a queue of fans, I was lucky enough to say hello to Edgar. :) This time as I shook his hand I told him the last time I shook hands with him was at a
Bill Bailey gig and he said, "Oh yeah, the Hot Fuzz t-shirt." Yay for that t-shirt! This time I was wearing my
Kia Ora t shirt which I pointed out to him but to be honest I'm not sure he got the reference? More on that in a mo. Next, he was kind enough to allow a photo with myself and
missy_manic (thanks to the fan that took it for us). As we were leaving the cinema we saw Jessica Hynes chatting to fans outside! Now I was wishing I'd bought something to sign! It was raining and windy so I felt I couldn't ask for a photo. Instead I asked if I could shake her hand. Bit of a strange thing to ask but it got the intro out the way! And thinking on the spot I said I was wearing my
Kia Ora t shirt in protest to McSpaced as it is probably a reference that won't get used. She read the t shirt out loud to her self "Kia Ora for me and my dog...It's a good t shirt." Again I wasn't even sure if she understood the reference LOL but I said the US version won't be anywhere near as good, and she seemed to appreciate that remark and said, "Oh, thank you." And with that, it was time to leave. A great night out. :)
