So apparently they care...
I just had my studio director in my office. He explained the situation to me. Explained to em that they wanted to give me more and the reasons why they weren't allowed to, home office corporate bullshit and I'll spare you the details.
Anyhow, he tells me what the deal is and then asks me why I'm so upset and not to be shy about it, so I drop it on the table. Cost of living. Inflation. All manner of other things. He listened, and said that everything i had was a very valid point. The problem is to get me into a higher salary, they have to promote me. Well, I've had 2 promotions since last April. Home Office won't let them promote me for at least another year. He then asks me to tell him exactly how much I feel I should be making, but not to answer him right now, but to do some research and then get back to him. He said he can't promise anything right now, but that if I'd do that, he'd seriously look into it and see what he could do. 5+ times in this conversation he said, and I quote, "I don't want to lose you, this team needs you here."
So the outcome:
Home Office = corporate gas bags
Studio = people that give a shit
I guess in the end, what it means is that I know my boss wants me here and is willing to try and take the steps necessary to keep me. but he's got to do what we all have to do, dance for corporate. His hope is that the game ships on time and is received well, all it takes is one good review of the audio and he's got something to shake in the faces of the people who control the drawstrings of the purse.
So, this is what I'll say, buy my game. If you don't own an Xbox 360 or PS3 but know someone who does, buy my game for them. Secondly, don't pirate games, especially my company and their partners games. Less sales does equal less money in my pocket. Less money in my pocket equals a poorer me. A poorer me equals an angry me, and well, we don't need Yoda to tell us where anger leads.
The upside is that apparently on my reviews, I was graded an A, the highest you can get, we don't have A+ and all that shit. So that at least is a good thing. The confidence in me is there, it's just a matter of getting the corporate badgers to realize the gem they ahve on their hands I guess...
And so ends the bad day. I'm going home and playing wow all night I think. I need to blwo off some steam anyhow.
