guitar hero 4

so, i finally got World Tour. woohoo! my very first impressions are... mixed.

the game
the good - the game itself is great so far. good music, lots of options, etc... the create-a-character & customizable instruments are veeeeeery detailed. that should be a lot of fun to mess around with.

the bad - when using the drums, you have to use the tiny little directional pad to navigate. you can't use the blue & yellow pads like rock band. that's kind of annoying.

the instruments
the good - the guitar is really nice looking. the fingertap slide area is easier to use than the rock band solo buttons. the drums are even better. they're extremely sturdy & tough looking. they look & feel like what i would imagine a real electric drum kit to be like. i highly doubt i'll damage them in the slightest. the kick pedal is different than the rock band pedal. it's a little bigger & has rubber & velcro on the bottom, so there's no chance that it'll slip while playing.

the bad - the drums... i'm not sure if it's something with my particular set, but the drums can't register 2 or more pads getting hit at the same time. it's mostly the red in conjunction with other pads. the pads themselves register just fine, which makes it even more odd & frustrating. if i can't figure out how to fix this problem, i might just have to use the rock band kit.

bottom line, it's an amazing game, but the drum issue is very disheartening.

*fake edit*
i just tried using the rock band drum kit. the first thing i noticed was how the game modifies itself for the rock band kit by removing the extra drum pad on-screen (GH drums have 5 pads + kick pedal, rock band only has 4 + kick pedal). pretty cool. however, it was still hard to get 2 pads to register at the same time. it's either a calibration/lag issue or something in the game itself. not cool either way.
