Bram Stoker's Dracula

I've decided to take a small break from Dracula as it is positively creeping me out. You would think such an age old story would be overdone, but not this one. There is a part in the book in which a ship comes into dock, being steered by a dead man whose hands are tied to the steer. As the ship rests, a dog runs from it, and is later described as being somewhat deranged. Of course, as I am reading this, knowing his derangement is somehow from a vampire, my own dog begins to bark outside, which completely scared the crap out of me.

Aside from that, the book is still just plain creepy. I have decided that though a movie may give lasting images, a book can be far more psychologically scary, because a person must get invested in a book to read it. A book can , though rarely, take two hours to read, but it never feels like it took two hours, it always feels like more. Not to mention, for most people, reading a book can take days or weeks. That's days or weeks spent becoming pretty much psychologically invested in the events and characters, which in this case are very creepy. Reading is always fun for me, because I begin to feel as if I know the characters and I begin to relate to them (which explains the fact that I turned a few lights on in the house, so as not to have to experience the same fear as the characters, lol).

When I first started reading Dracula I did not like that the book was written as a composition of journal entries and letters and such, but as I read on I love it, as well as envy the characters for writing such good journal entries; mine are never exciting or as well crafted as these are. Of course, if I were encountering demons such as this, I'm sure I would have a little more to speak about as well, haha. I also love the book because it seems as if whenever I begin to lose interest somewhat, something creepy happens to reel me back in. Plus, it is becoming a quicker read with each page.

Anyways, I like this book.......... and I'm going to go continue reading it now. I am not tired, so maybe I can knock out a good bit of it.
