One last blow out...

Aug 02, 2004 22:23

Saturday was eventful to say the least...

Went to Subs house for his house warming party. Lots of hip hop and hot wings... HOT wings. LOL Met his mom and dad which was pretty cool. His sister was there, and Dorian was giving me a hard time (no shock there lol)

Around 6:30 I headed toward Torpor's and we loaded up the sound, bound for the Globe one last time. The Globe has now shut it's doors. Kind of sad in a way, but I digress. We got there around 9, just to find out some smart ass stole EVERY FUCKING MIXER IN THE PLACE. Luckily I had bought a mixer at Sub's house and we had an extra they could use. We got the sound set up and tested it out a few times before they opened the doors. Solow was first up on the decks. Played a hammering set. Dark and heavy, which was a bit of a surprise since he told me he was looking for lighter tunes lately because he was getting tired of the heavy shit constantly. LOL go figure. So for his hour or so, there was maybe 10- 15 people in the room. Not sure why, but they just kinda walked in and kept right on going. Torpor came up after Solow. To no surprise Torpor dropped the fire, and as luck would have it Enda and Evade showed up and plugged in the mic. Though Torpor was building the crowd the MC's hyped everybody up and drew more people into the room. Solid mixing by the first two DJ's was building up the hype and vibe nicely and Torpor dropped one last tune. Mason's Ruff Rugged and Raw VIP dropped in, layed over the hip hop segment and pounded. Torpor pulled it back and let it go from the hip hop again. At this point I stepped up (about 12:30ish) and started pulling in extra snare hits on Ruff, Rugged and Raw. The MC's were lighting up the mic and after the second breakdown I started dropping in Rebirth by Mampi Swift. Being the last night for the Globe I dug deep and pulled out some older stuff along with some newer tunes and started on a bit of a journey. Knowing who was coming on after me, I had every intention of slowing the set down and getting funkier and more soulful. Apparently this was what the crowd wanted. With the MC's tossing the mic back and forth and I started weaving some music for the floor. To my surprise when I stepped off the decks I was greeted by Solow, and Torpor who both told me it was probably the best set they have ever heard me play. Not to mention the numerous people in the crowd who were delighted (or was that me.. hrm...) to tell me they were amazed with my set. Never been told that I was the first drum n bass DJ to make somebody dance. I think that is probably one of the best compliments I can ever receive. Machu stepped up to the decks after me. The owner of Forestry Service Records laid down some funky shit off the back. [The fucking bastard] has Alpha Omega - Analyze Dem on plate now hehe and MC Arion Lee came into the building and hopped on the mic as well. The crowd built the vibe back up witht he three MC's on the mic and Machu started playing more dancefloor tunes. If you know me, you know, that by my saying I danced like a mad man, it means a lot. Great shit. He got a bit heavy toward the end, which was shocking as Matt's not done that around me in quite a while, to be honest. Fuzzy Digital, a progressive house / trance DJ was next up. I was waiting for the record to slow down, but instead I start hearing this damaging fucking beat come in, and my jaw dropped. Out of gate this crazy bastard drops one of the heaviest tunes of the night! I turned to Solow and said "What the fuck is he doing" then proceeded to laugh my ass off. So Fuzzy starts dropping some sick beats and I walked outside for a bit to catch some air. Said bye to some friends who were off to drink Vodka til the wee hours. Walked back in to Torpor feeding Fuzzy records (he didn't have enough DnB to last his whole set). Walked up to the booth and Torpor asked if I wanted to help feed the frenzy. "Well... yeaahhh" and off we go. Massive set from the House man! Last up Luphkin stepped up and killed the power on Fuzzy's last tune. A Trance beat started kicking in and I swear the crowd goes "AWWWWWWWW" audibly over the music. =x Luphkin didn't care, he just started playing his blend of Trance and there was still a good number of people in the room at 5:30 when the club finally turned on it's lights. I just happned to walk outside and there had to be everybid of 300 kids in the parking lot. LOL Crazy shit. Damage report... somebody lost, or stole a fader knob off my mixer that I bought THAT FUCKING AFTERNOON. Luckily Torpor remembered one hidden by the front decks and I replaced it before going home.

Got home around 8:30 AM. Dead tired. Thought I was going to fall over after I took my shoes off. Great times. Smiles all around. Seems to be nothing but good reviews going around. From me.. I give it a solid A. =D Glad to be a part of that night, it'll be in my mind for a long time.
