My favorite late night horror movie host, The Ghoul,
http://www.theghoul.com/ , is coming to Thomas Video today! I've seen the Ghoul in person before but I've missed him the last several times when he's been in town, usually at Thomas Video. The Ghoul was my reason for staying up late when I discovered him my first year in high school. I loved the way he'd insert audio clips into the films he showed. Things like belches, car horns, some of his catch phrases and more. He's been off Detroit stations for a long time now and we miss him here dammit. I've heard tell he's on in Cleveland but cannot confirm it. He's released a smattering of his stuff on video and I want more! Maybe he'll have a new video release for us today. He'll be there between 1 and 6 pm today and I'll be there.
I saw him live at the Magic Bag Theatre in Ferndale a few times and I remember standing in the autograph line 3 times so I could get autographs for my buddies and the 3rd time I got to him in the line, he said to me (paraphrasing here) "Awww man, you again!? Jeez, you're like dog dirt on my shoes, I can't get rid of you!" Well, I was insulted by The Ghoul, my dreams had come true ;-) Well, I guess I'll go and see him today and be dog dirt on his shoe again ;-)
Boy, Thomas Video. I remember them when they were in Alvaro Plaza at Crooks and 14 Mile way back in the day before home video made it's debut, when they still sold super 8 films. It was a big deal then to me to save up $40 to buy just one 3 Stooges short. I lived for their used film sale where you could get some bargains but, alas, I had very little money so I had to choose very carefully and leave depressed at what I couldn't buy :-(
Eventually Denny Thomas (no, not the Make Room For Daddy guy) sold the business to Jim and Garry who run it to this day. Jim and Garry also have a rock band that they've been in for over a decade now called Cinecyde,
http://www.thomasvideo.com/cinecyde/cine-frames.html . I have one of their cd's and my fav track from it is "Eminent Domain", a cute instrumental number. Another one off it is called "Credit Trap" about the dangers of too many credit cards, something of which I know all about and that caused me to file for bankruptcy.
Oh well, that's all for this post. Stay tuned for many more on a variety of subjects as I attempt to catch up on all things LJ.
Til then, climb walls, scratch glass, turn blue, do anything you want just don't get caught!
