10) Ashdown Group - "Thank you for applying for one of our recently advertised vacancies - your CV has just been added to our database and will be reviewed shortly."

Their standard response. I don't think they've ever gotten back to me shortly. I have 4 of these responses from the past week alone.

9) Computer People - "I am now on client site until Friday 22nd May 2009. I can be reached on my mobile: 07980 213 978 for any urgent enquiries. Thank you."

Why advertise a job and then disappear for a few days?

8) Refreshing Recruitment - "Thank you for your application. Regrettably you have not been short listed as other candidates with a closer fit to our clients requirement have been identified. Sorry its not better news."

3rd Line Windows support role. Could have done it with my eyes shut. Not very Refreshing.

7) Bite Consulting - "Thank you for your application for the above vacancy and my apologies for the delay which was due to the vast number of applications. We read your CV with interest but unfortunately you have not been short listed for this position."

I wonder how interested they really were.

6) Michael Page - "Thank you for your interest in the above position. Unfortunately, applications for this position are now closed, and I am unable to pursue your application on this occasion."

I applied for this position about 2 hours after it was listed. They sent me this response twice as well.

5) ITS Recruit - "Thank you for your response. Unfortunately you do not have the background we are looking for with this role. We may call you in time with other opportunities. Good luck in your search."

I only ever apply for jobs I'm sure I can do. This was for a Windows Helpdesk Desktop Support Analyst role. Makes me wonder what background they're looking for.

4) Cornwallis ELT - "Thank you for your job application, of which we confirm receipt. Due to large volumes of CVs received, we cannot unfortunately reply to every applicant personally, however should we be able to assist you, one of the team will be in contact very shortly."

Not going to wait with baited breath.

3) Michael Page (again) - "Thank you for your interest in the above position. Unfortunately, I have received applications from candidates whose experience more closely match my client's specific requirements. I will not, therefore, be progressing your application on this occasion."

This is their default response.

2) Spring - "Your details have been sent to one of our consultants who will review your suitability for this role. Due to the large volume of applications for this vacancy we are only able to contact successful applicants. If you have not heard from us within 7 days please assume that unfortunately on this occasion you have not been successful. We will, however, retain all your details and contact you if a more suitable position should arise."

Another default response.

1) Michael Bailey Associates - "We are currently searching for experts in Biotech and Bioinformatics to work in Rijswijks, the Netherlands for 6 months plus extensions. This is a fantastic contract opportunity for a large international orientated client."

I apply for a 3rd line support position in London. They invite me to apply for a Biotech role in the Netherlands.

And that's just the past month or so. Of course for each response I get back like these, there are a dozen or so recruitment agencies that just don't bother replying. Top of my hate list for never ever getting back ever goes to 'Zero Effort Ltd' - someone there really hates me.
