I will eventually get around to posting my amusing stories. That is, as soon as I write them and edit them. That's the problem with making friends with Writing Center peeps--you are always concerned about the quality of what you show them.
Wednesday night class was fun. I had my students draw pictures and then write sentences about them. I am going to try to scan the pictures and maybe put one or two up for folks to see. I'm so proud of my students. We were learning opposites: tall and short, big and little, cheap and expensive... Anyway, my one male student, each time we got to a word like handsome, rich, or thin he would say "Oh, like me." At one point, two males came in to the room and wanted to join the class. They only spoke Spanish so my students explained the way the class worked. They decided to leave and come back on Monday. After they left, my students were like "Ten minutes wasted!"
I'm learning pidgin Spanish. Sometimes I speak to my students in a mixture of Spanish, English, and French. Actually, my French has been more helpful than I thought it would. There are several Spanish words that I am able to understand simply because they are so similar to French words. Sometimes my students will say something, and while I don't understand everything they have said, I am able to pick up the gist.
