The Silver Cross

I was at the mall today with dad, AGAIN, to shop for mom's birthday gift. And I meet up with this great guy. I mean, I met Tony Prince, and he like owns all of the Prince's Jewelers stores, y'know the ones in New York. He is so handsome and sophisticated, I couldn't help but feel embarrassed being in his presence. Not that we Valencourts don't have our own prestige with our name, but it's so rare to meet someone so... refined.

I didn't think he'd be so young! I think he's barely much older than I am. And he's so accomplished. Though daddy just says that he's probably freeloading off his own father. Ugh, Daddy can be so difficult sometimes. But Mr. Prince let me keep this one pendant -- a silver cross, that I was going to buy for... Pietro.

It's sitting there on my vanity right now, and as I look at it, I think it's just the most beautiful thing. It's so hard giving away a gift that was given to you. It's so gorgeous that I would love to keep it for myself, but it would be so selfish of me. I specifically picked it out for Pietro, to maybe give to him if I ever saw him in New York. I don't know if I'll ever get a more important gift than this. If I purchased it myself, then it wouldn't be so hard to give it away, but Mr. Prince let me have it. A secret present that I'm not supposed to let anyone know about.

I'll have some time to think it over and once I see Pietro in New York, hopefully, I'd have decided whether I want to keep the pendant or not.

But right now, I am so excited and wide awake. It's like I just have to tell someone. I've already talked my father's ear off, but I don't trust the other girls. They'd all just swarm over there, trying to be all pretty, especially if I tell them how cute the owner is. I could tell them about my silver cross, they'd be dying to see that.

Maybe, I could get something else for Pietro. My head just hurts by thinking about the dilemma.
