I haven't written much Grimm this summer, beyond the two I've already posted.
I posted Legacy about a month ago, even though I'd finished it sometime last spring. I hadn't meant to hold on to it that long, but after I'd posted
The Price to Be Paid, I realized that, with very little rewriting, I could make that story into a sequel for TPtBP. So, rewriting done, I set it free.
My inspiration for Legacy was simply that the coins are never truly going to be gone from Nick's life, even if he does dispose of them somewhere. There will always be people coming after him, drawn to their power like moths to a flame. So, I thought I'd take a look into the far future and see what happens when someone comes looking for them. Then, I got to thinking about what would happen if Nick had a son he didn't know about. Those ideas sort of collided and this story is the result.
It was fun to look into the future of these characters and see how their lives have changed in the intervening years. All the little details were a ton of fun to come up with, and I got to play with characters I haven't written before. I've got an idea for a story that would fit between TPtBP and Legacy, but it's just a matter of writing it. Unfortunately, I think it's going to be an epic, longer than Legacy by far, so I don't know when it'll get done. But I do want to write it, because it shows how we got to where we were in Legacy, which is a story worth telling, I think.
The other story I posted this summer was A Shift in Perspective. It's a post-ep for Bad Moon Rising, featuring the conversation after the revelation. I wondered what that conversation would look like. You know, the one where Nick has to explain just what the hell was going on with him. Hank had such a giddy look on his face that I thought, well, he'd probably have endless questions and would probably be shocked by some of what he's been missing.
I had no idea what story would become the first story I'd write for the new season, but I'm kind of glad it was this one. It was fun to write and gave me the rare chance to play with a gen story. But never fear, my Muse is a romantic at heart, so I'm sure I'll be writing more romance in the near future.
