1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Studied at UNE. Actually, you could make that; studied at an institution (full stop) - with face to face, feedback, assessments and exams! Woo!
Coordinated church music.
Went to youth and uni ministry conferences in Jan and Dec.
Became an aunty.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t do new years resolutions - it’s just more potential for disappointment.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep! My sister in law had beautiful Nadia. Andrea had another baby too.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Kim died on the 23rd of October. I miss her so much.
5. What countries did you visit?
Just Australia, but next year, God willing, the list will be much longer ;)
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
More: Courage. Faith. Tolerance. Forgiveness. Selflessness. Let’s say more love in general.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
October 15th. It was the day the doctors told us we would lose Kim.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finishing my first year of uni with flying colours. Clearly I’m amazing.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Oh, let’s just not go there.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really. All my problems were mental, which I’m not sure is a good or bad thing!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I’m not sure I can answer this yet cause there are a few things I’ve bought but am yet to enjoy, such as KYLC in Jan 09 and a ticket to Coldplay in March! But because I can’t answer for either of those yet, let’s just say my ticket to Phantom of the Opera in July... ;)
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
All of the Pullars, for being so brave. Fran’s, for her forgiveness. Mum’s, for her patience. Will’s, for his steadiness. Brent’s, for his support in stressful musical situations. Joe and Carly’s, for taking to parenthood like pros.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My own and many others. Probably the biggest problem, though, was that I allowed myself to be appalled and depressed.
14. Where did most of your money go?
I’d like to say my savings account, but I’m not totally sure. Mostly uni (why oh why did I pay for first semester? I could have left it on my hecs debt and have $1500 more for England next year!) After that, it would be trips away, gifts, gigs/shows/conferences, and food.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Nadia Rose!
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
“I Must Get On That Ship” from Titanic. Ah, what good memories.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder?
Sadder.
Richer or poorer?
Poorer. Full time uni isn’t quite as kind on the bank balance as full time work is.
Thinner or fatter?
Thinner... I really need to stop answering this to this question.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Smiling.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Crying.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Lunch with my immediate family, and volleyball, arvo tea and a movie with Polly and some of the overseas students.
21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
I tried, a few times.
22. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don’t.
23. What was the best book you read?
Most of my reading was uni texts this year. I really enjoyed rereading “Heart of Darkness” this semester - a book I previously swore I’d always hate!! Also really enjoyed much of the poetry I studied, particularly Plath, Harwood and Bronte.
24. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t as musically inquisitive as I wish I had been. I loved the music from Titanic, but that’s probably more to do with the experiences associated rather than the music itself. I also really liked introducing some of Michael Morrow’s songs at church and am looking forward to sharing more with our church next year.
25. What did you want and get?
Good marks at uni. Respect from lecturers. Some good uni friendships. A part in Titanic.
26. What was your favourite film of this year?
As It Is In Heaven.
27. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had brekky at home with the fam and some girl friends, and lunch at uni with more friends. I had random people wish me happy birthday, and weirded out my 18 year old stalker when I told him I just turned 20.
28. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
No death, mourning, crying or pain.
29. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Clothing: Jeans West, Jeans West, Just Jeans, Jeans West! Hair: Erin Winiki. Make up: Lucas’ and Innoxa. Consultant: anyone who cared to advise, particularly Mum and Fran. ;)
30. What kept you sane?
Mum (though she drove me insane much of the time too :P).
And I guess God. I didn’t feel like He was, much of the year, but then he is always there and working even if not in the way that we think or wish, so I’ll give him some credit too!
31. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Well, I DID just watch Australia, and then of course I had to re watch Kate and Leopold, and Emily and I are planning to have an Oklahoma night as soon as she’s home so... definitely Hugh Jackman. ;)
32. Who did you miss?
I don’t generally miss people, I’m just glad when I see them. But knowing that I wont see Kim again til we meet in heaven makes me miss her lots.
33. Who were the best new people you met?
Emily. Nadia. Blake. William. Abby.
34. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
If in doubt, say no.
Also, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Phil 4:6. I actually didn’t learn it. I’m trying, and I think I will be for about 80 more years yet.
35. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
When peace like a river attends my way, when sorrow like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot you have taught me to say, it is well with my soul.
