Merry Christmas to all! Hope you had as lovely a day as we all had! I'm going away for ten days tomorrow, so I guess that means I should wish you all a Happy New Year as well! I'm just gonna leave you with this cool meme for now, but when I return I hope to present you all with a small work called,
My Life in a Dental Drama
EGH's musings on a year of work I need to compress all my thoughts into something half intelligible and will share it when I'm done.
Joe and Carly arrived midnight last night and I've baked mince pies and tonight we're going to see Enchanted so I have a feeling it'll be an exciting day! Then J, C and I are off to Beach Mission, so I'll see you all when I return!
1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Worked full time - wooooooow.
Attended a course at the NIDA campus in Sydney.
Received flowers.
Danced and sang in a musical.
Sat an exam.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t think I even made any, but I’d like to think I will next year. Have I yet? No.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Andrea had beautiful little Amelia. Jade from work had a little boy. And then everyone else is due next year!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope.
5. What countries did you visit?
Don’t rub salt in the wound!
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A more secure faith in God and his promises of grace and a sound mind.
7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
28th June. I crashed the caaaaaaar!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Sticking at work. Juggling a musical and work and church and family commitments for half the year was also pretty huge!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Being insecure about myself at work, wondering what workmates thought of me when I should have just sought to serve them regardless of how I felt they treated me.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got the flu. And I had a sore back for most of the year actually. And I suffered some sort of shock after rolling the car.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I actually didn’t buy much! I saved for uni next year, but I did get some random clothes and gifts, oh and all the Hornblower DVDs in a box set! Now that was pretty cool.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
He will remain nameless here but I’m really grateful for people who act mature and caring despite circumstances.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Like, probably everyone’s at one time or another but it’s usually more my problem than theirs!
14. Where did most of your money go?
The bank.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Danika and Alex are engaged!
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Anything by Playjerise, Gotye, Ben Lee or Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Maybe the same. I have found this time of year to be difficult these last two years, when this year is wrapping up and closing, and next year is still totally unknown!
thinner or fatter? Definitely thinner.
richer or poorer? Richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Expanding my mind.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Complaining.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Home, as usual, with a couple of relatives and this time some best friends too!
21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
No but God taught me lots about love and relationships in general and I’m so grateful for what I learnt.
22. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No way.
23. What was the best book you read?
Unfortunately, my spare time was greatly reduced this year, and the time I did have off was spent sleeping or in some other kind of exhausted state! Ok, I think I did waste a lot of time… I loved Tess of the D’Urbevilles though, and am really enjoying re reading the Narnia books.
24. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I’ve loved Playjerise, Ben Lee and Ben Kweller. Also rediscovered DC Talk after temporarily forgetting them and that’s exciting!
25. What did you want and get?
Direction for next year. Well, sort of!
26. What was your favourite film of this year?
I adored Miss Potter, Fly Boys, Jane Eyre, Dear Frankie.
27. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 19, and I spent the day with my family in Sydney, bumming around and enjoying the sights and sounds of Centennial Park.
28. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If I could have just treated everyone in a truly loving way. And not winged about relationships and places God has placed me in. Love is a big word.
29. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Pretty casual. I tried to look nice and I did buy some cool things, but I still struggle with the line between being content with what I have while still treating myself to something new once in a while! Call me Scottish…
30. What kept you sane?
I actually loved having a strict weekly routine, even though that in itself almost drove me mad at times. Sleep was an important sanity preserver, and also church and family activities that took me away from work!
31. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I didn’t fancy any of them but I like Ewan MacGregor and James Franco :-)
32. Who did you miss?
I miss a lot of people.
33. Who were the best new people you met?
I have loved getting to know Lisa the last couple of months.
34. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Pray and talk with wiser people long before you attempt to speak!
35. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Is this one for the people? Is this one for the Lord?
Or do I simply serenade for things I must afford?
You can jumble them together, my conflict still remains
Holiness is calling, in the midst of courting fame
Cause I see the trust in their eyes
Though the sky is falling
They need Your love in their lives
Compromise is calling
What if I stumble, what if I fall?
What if I lose my step and I make fools of us all?
Will the love continue when my walk becomes a crawl?
What if I stumble, and what if I fall?
I hear You whispering my name [You say]
"My love for You will never change" [never change]
What If I Stumble? DC Talk.
