Settling in?

Jan 05, 2007 17:55

Ax wasn't sure how he felt about this "Disneyland" situation, but he was rather pleased with his choice of a home. From what he'd seen of this place, it was fairly short on large areas of grass, but he'd managed to find a decent supply that, as it so happened, was next to a small river ( Read more... )

It had been a long time since Jack had seen anything that looked like Ax, but it - he was clearly in a lot of distress.

Walking up him, the human said with some concern, "Are you okay? What's happening?"

Ax had spent another few minutes fretting and being generally irritated until he'd finally decided to (grudgingly) take Envy's advice and morph back to human form.

It seemed, though, that this plan, too, was doomed. He'd only just begun the morph when this other human had appeared--he looked like a human, at least; Ax was beginning to think that might not be such a wise assumption to make, anymore.

He didn't have any chance of finishing the human morph without arousing serious suspicion, so he gave up, reversing the morph and leaping behind a bush a few steps away before yelling back in thought-speak,

Jack winced at the 'volume', then choked out at short laugh. "Yeah, and I'm a Dalek in a tutu. C'mon, I'm not gonna hurt you. What's wrong?"

These humans certainly seemed... unnaturally calm about seeing an Andalite. Then again, he'd already met a drone and... some sort of other creature with morphing abilities. Perhaps there were many alien creatures in this place.

The question was, would it help him any to morph to human at this point? Probably not. It would only further his loss of a disguise, assuming he was going to have to pass as human while he waws here. Maybe the best thing would be to just talk to this human as an Andalite.

Ax said again, stepping out and eyeing the human nervously.

"What, so you just run around in circles like a mad horse for fun? I'm Jack Harkness, I'm not stupid*." He shrugged. If this guy didn't wanna talk, he wouldn't push it, but he was too tired of people acting like he would just do as he was told like a good little human. "What's your name, anyway? I didn't catch it."

*Although some would say this fact is somewhat debatable.

Ax argued defensively. Well, there was no sense in associating himself with his human name, at this point. He didn't particularly like being compared to a horse, either, although there were some interesting similarities... But that was beside the point.

Jack shrugged again. "Whatever you say. If you wanna act like you're fine, I won't push it any more."

He inclined his head politely, though. "Pleasure to meet you, Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill."

Ax was already in a somewhat irritable mood, so it was difficult not to snap at this Jack person and leave. That probably wouldn't help things, though--and this human seemed more polite than the last creature he'd spoken to.

he finally allowed.

"You can do that?" Jack asked, surprised, then blinked. "Sorry. Ignore the stupid human when he says stuff like that. But, yeah, time is pretty weird here. I can see why that might upset you. Is there anyway way you can, I don't know, block it out or ignore it?"

How could he explain needing to know when 2 hours had passed without revealing that he was trying to pass for a human? he said instead. It was interesting, though, that this human referred to himself as a human. he asked.

"I haven't met any personally, but considering this place, how can there not be?" Jack shrugged. "But I've been around. See alot of non-humans, not here."

A human who had seen alien creatures before? How strange. Most humans who believed that there were other species in the universe were generally considered to be insane, but this human seemed quite competent.

Ax said, hoping he didn't sound as puzzled as he felt. This was a stranger place than he had thought.

He did sound a little puzzled. Jack picked up on it, and sighed. "Look, what earth century are you from? We all seem to be picked up from different times and places, for some reason. For example, I was born in the fifty-first, and I met a nice girl called Cayce from the twenty-first. With all that, there must some kinda temporal anomaly, or else it'd be even weirder."

This human did seem more intelligent than most, Ax realized with a certain degree of relief. It wasn't that he didn't respect human intelligence, but... Well, he didn't get to talk with humans who used phrases like "temporal anomaly" very often. It took him a moment, though, to register what century the human said he was from and compare that to what he remembered of the Earth calendar.

he exclaimed. For one thing, it meant that there were still humans alive in the fifty-first Earth century who wouldn't kill an Andalite on sight. he paused to remember.

"That seems to be pretty much the norm, round here," remarked Jack, "There seems to be alot of people from either the late twentieth or early twenty-first century. Maybe whatever grabbed us likes it 'round then."

Hmm. Well, that was probably best, Ax decided, since he was already good at used to fitting in with humans from around his own time period. he commented. Perhaps a more advanced human would be useful in these matters.
