Poor little Rukia didn't get around to checking her mail until the day of the party, and a result, hurried to Aziraphale and Alice's place as quickly as her gigai would carry her. When she arrived, it was with a poorly-made snowball in each hand.
Rukia wanted to give gifts and couldn't think of anything. Knowing that snowballs seemed to make humans happy, she made due with that.
Once the sun went down, James headed straight towards Aziraphale's party, a Santa hat sitting somewhat crooked on his head. He knocked on the door and waited.
"Hello!" said Rukia cheerfully, when she saw him standing there as well. The snowballs were making her hands numb. "How are you doing? I don't believe we've met, but I'm Rukia Kuchiki."
James looked at the snowballs in Rukia's hands, but before he could ask what exactly she was doing with them, the door opened. "I'm glad we could make it too," he said, grinning.
((Immediate thought on reading the Mood on this post: "...AND OTHER THINGS ENDING IN OLLY."))
Cayce made her way up to the party with a large round tin brimming with candy canes in hand. She was also wearing three large jingle bells on a ribbon around her neck -- the sort of holiday frippery she'd have disdained at home, but which seemed only appropriate here. She planned on chucking them soon after she arrived -- the glingleglingleglingle was driving her batty -- but she had said in her RSVP that she'd be there with bells on, and it amused to her be literal about it.
Aziraphale laughed good-naturedly at Cayce's appearance when he opened the door. "How festive! Cayce, isn't it? How are you enjoying Fitzgerald? Oh, do come in, my dear."
"It's great -- thank you." She held out the candy canes. "Little contribution to the festivities. Oh, and --" she pulled off the bells, grinning, "feel free to hang these somewhere. I'm not sure I can wear them for much longer without going nuts."
"Understood, of course," he said, taking the bells and tying them about the wreath so it will jingle when someone comes in. "Do help yourself to food and drinks. Fay's mince pies are wonderful."
Smoking a cigarette she'd been offered by a dark-haired teenager who didn't seem like he was going to the party, Holly daintily made her way up the steps to the apartment.
"Merry Christmas!" she called happily, before she was even all the way up. Holly usually liked to be fashionably late, but she didn't have much to do and didn't want to wait around for the part too long. Cat had come, too -- not by Holly's order or even request, but just because Cat felt like it.
"And to you, too, my dear," he said, beaming when he realised Holly Golightly was at his Christmas party. "I'm quite pleased you came. Oh, and hello Cat!" he added, bending to give the cat a quick pet. He wasn't really an animal person, they didn't go well with rare books, but animals tended to like him nonetheless, and he did find them endearing when they weren't endangering his prized possessions.
Cat purred and arched his back. He did indeed like Aziraphale, and he purred, brushing against the angel's legs. Presumably, it was Cat's way of saying Hello, Mr. Fell.
Holly beamed right back at him. "Oh, I'm very pleased to be here," she assured him. "It's a charming little place you've got here! I should think you get more than your fair share of visitors."
"What a lovely little cat he is," said Aziraphale, smiling at the response. "So affectionate."
He turned to Holly, ushering her inside. "Oh, yes, we're quite fortunate to have it, it would be terribly selfish not to share. We're happy to have visitors any time."
"Merry Christmas, Fell-san and Alice-chan!" Fay called. Mokona sat on his head and he was dragging Kurogane behind him. He'd found a bag somewhere, in which was the ultra-large ultra-chocolaty cake he had made as a Christmas present for Alice and Mr Fell.
Alice opened the door for him, smiled, and ushered the three inside. "I'm very glad you could turn up," she said. "Come, the food's over there if you want it. Lucky!" She gave them an apologetic look. "Terribly sorry. He keeps trying to play with the tinsel. Excuse me."
Fay smiled at his companions as Alice left to discipline her cat. "Isn't this nice?" the blonde said sweetly.
"Mage." Kurogane is obviously in that twitching stage right before something or other always happens to make him start yelling. "What's going on, and why are we here?"
He'd only been dragged along because he had gotten very, very slightly distracted by the "candy cane" thing Fay kept sucking on, but now that he was thinking clearly again he wanted to know why the mage had dragged him out of the cafe, to this random place with random strangers.
It looked like a party. Fay had better not have dragged him to a party.
"It's a Christmas party, Kuro-pon!" Fay said. "We were invited! Didn't you notice Alice-chan hanging around the cafe and taking food home?"
Ah, yes, the candy cane. Fay had become rather addicted to them since Kira had sent him one as his Christmas present (searching the park for more hadn't taken nearly as long as he'd feared). At least, he seemed to always have one in his mouth, except when he was sleeping or eating something else.
They were also, he had been pleased to confirm, a wonderful way of distracting Kurogane.
He used his new tactic now, sliding the candy cane out of his mouth slightly and running his tongue along it. "Something wrong?" the blonde asked innocently. At least, as innocently as Fay could manage.
Dammit, Fay was doing that on purpose. So Kurogane looked away to avoid seeing him doing indecent things to a stick of candy. "Of course I noticed. Why are we at a Christmas party? We've only just found out what Christmas is," he points out.
A slight pause, almost a hesitation. "There's nothing wrong."
