Application for Apollo Justice, from... Apollo Justice

Oct 04, 2008 22:57

... So either Trucy had learnt how to improve her illusions, or something really weird was happening to Apollo. And, considering the usual events in Apollo's life, if he thought something was really weird, it was pretty darned odd.

"Another foolish defense attorney, I see," Franziska sneered, looking unimpressed. "And if I may judge by your associations, even more foolishly foolish than that other fool."

Apollo opened his mouth to protest, then stopped. Did a double-take. Something about this woman was familiar; mainly her over-use of the word 'fool'. Then he caught sight of the whip she held so close, and his jaw dropped.

"Prosecutor Franziska von Karma?" he said, quite awe-struck. Of course he had heard of her and watched videos of her trials: she was almost as well-known as Prosecutor Edgeworth.

Though she did look a little... young.

"That is correct," she said. "Have I crushed you in court before? I'm afraid I don't remember, but I can't remember every pitiful fool I defeat..."

... Wow, she really was as 'confident' as people said.

"No," Apollo answered. "I've never been to Germany. But I've heard of you, of course! I mean, what attorney hasn't? Well," he amended, "any attorney who researches well-known past cases."

All right, Franziska liked that, at least. "Perhaps, while you are a pitifully unqualified attorney, you are not as foolish as expected. Did you say you worked for a Wright?"

"I've never lost a case!" Apollo protested. So he might admit to being a rookie, but he definitely was not unqualified!

"Yes," he answered. "Phoenix Wright. At the Wright Anything Agency, with his daughter Trucy. He's... a very unique boss." Yes, 'unique' was about the nicest way of describing Phoenix that Apollo could come up with.

"Hmm, well, perhaps Mr. Phoenix Wright's dumb luck has rubbed off on you," she said. "But I can't imagine anyone with such a foolish employer being any less than an incompetent fool. I wasn't aware Phoenix Wright had a daughter, however."

"He wasn't always my boss," replied Apollo. "I used to work for Kristoph Gavin, but then... well, you must have heard the news about the trial, even in Germany. It was pretty big. In lawyer-circles.

"Neither was I," Apollo answered honestly. "She's adopted. The daughter of Zak Grammarye; remember, that magician who disappeared during Mr Wright's last case? Well, I say last, he might re-take the Bar Exam now he's able to..."

The name Kristoph Gavin was familiar, but she had no idea who Zak Grammarye was or what case he was talking about. She frowned, and said "I can hardly be expected to follow every case, Apollo Justice. Refresh my memory on this case of Phoenix Wright's that you refer to."

"Oh, right! Sorry." Though that was kind of weird. It had been pretty big news, and he'd have imagined that all of Mr Wright's friends/acquaintances/rivals would have heard about it, if not on the news then from Mr Wright himself.

"It was seven years ago. The master of Troupe Grammarye - the magician's troupe - was murdered, and one of his students, Zak Grammarye, was accused of murder. Mr Wright defended him, but when it looked like Zak was going to be pronounced guilty he disappeared, so Mr Wright decided to look after Trucy. It was the case that had Mr Wright disbarred for presenting false evidence, but of course," he continued hastily, "he wasn't the one who had the evidence forged, and he didn't know it was false when he presented it, either."
