Bernard had been slowly trying to convince himself that trying to con Susan was a really, really bad idea, mainly by avoiding doing anything. However, when it came down to it, the distinctive need to screw himself up overrode virtually everything else. So he woke up and scribbled out a note to Katou,

I wouldn't back out of it if my life depended on it.

Well, maybe I would. But the point is, I've just been waiting for the go-ahead by you.

Of course signed letters weren't evidence. No one would see them other than Bernard and himself.

Lily had seen someone pass out and, never one to just let random passed out people lie, hurried over to Bernard's side. "Um, sir?" she said, nervously. "Sir, are you all right?" She knew a few rudimentary healing spells, but it was possible they might not fully cover what was required for this.

Gingerhaired woman. Didn't look like a child. He turned over a little and spat out the bits of plant in his mouth, "Sir? Effin' sir? I'm fucked. Need 'elp. Susan, you know her?" He made a rather big deal of rolling over face first in the flowerbed again and hoped that was good enough.

"Sort of..." Lily admitted. "She runs the First Aid Station, doesn't she?" Lily started to turn, then paused and frowned. "Is she a friend of yours? You know, if you'll tell me what's wrong, I might be able to help you. I'm ... a med student."

There was a muffled 'mfph' from Bernard and he turned his head groggily to look at her, "Nah, Susan. My brain feels like it's melting away like a wet cake. Susan, yeah?" Dammit, didn't she get he was trying con her? Oh. No.

Sometime when the sun reached it's zenith, Katou headed toward Susan's. Before he got there, he did a brief search of her aura, and, not finding it, he headed inside. It looked like Bernard did a good job at trying to get her out of the clinic.

"Uh, hello," said Lily cheerfully, when Katou went inside. She didn't know, yet, that he had anything to do with Bernard. "Were you looking for Susan? She's not here right now, I'm afraid."

Oh shit. Katou had not been expecting that.

"Really?" he asked, and gave a cough. "That sucks. I just came by for some cough medicine. Do you think you could get it for me." He gave another cough. "I think I've come down with something."

Lily frowned. "Really?" she said. "I'm sorry to hear that. I'd be happy to get you some." She opened the cupboard, taking out a measuring spoon and a bottle of cough syrup. She poured the right amount onto the spoon before slowly, carefully handing it to Katou.

"There you go! Hope it helps. Come back in a few hours. Susan should be here by then and she might be able to help you better than me. I don't think she'd mind, though, if you wanted to lay down on one of the cots for a while."
