Open RP at the Lake.

Valentine's Day had been good, really. Leon had spent quite a bit of time with D, and hadn't thought much about investigating.

And then he realized that the list of names that the park had sent him for his cards (which he had not sent out because they were embarrassing and Kaira hadn't felt like making them) was probably a complete list of ( Read more... )

A little ways down from where Leon was swimming, a swimsuit-clad Una had put out a blanket to sunbathe and read.

She hadn't really seen Leon since the whole police force debacle, and while she wasn't really avoiding him on account of it, she did feel a trifle awkward about the whole affair. Not to mention the fact that she had plenty of other things to think about after all that.

She'd heard the splash as Leon dove in, but being absorbed in her book, didn't give it much of a second thought.

Leon swam for a few minutes, before he saw someone on the shore. He swam over, and then saw Una. He wasn't really sure how he was supposed to act, or what he was supposed to say, but he figured that since he was already there. "Hey," he said.

She looked up from her book and blinked. "Detective Orcot," she said. "Good afternoon."

"How you doing today?" he asked. He had been treading water, but even for the short period that he had been doing it, his leg was starting to get tired out. Part of him recognized it might have been in part because his clothes were weighing him down, but it still kind of ticked him off. Still, he knew better than to overexert it, and swam up to the shore, resting his arms on it so he didn't have to do anymore leg work.

She set down her book and pushed herself up to sit cross-legged. "Oh, fair enough, I suppose," she said. "Making the most of the unreasonably, unchangeably perfect weather." She sized him up, an amused look on her face. "Did you fall in, or do you always swim fully-clothed?"

"I don't always swim fully clothed," he said. "But now I've got some fairly ugly scars that I don't think most people wanna see."

She made a sympathetic noise. "Fair enough. Injured in the line of duty, that sort of thing?"

"Something like that," Leon said. Actually, he had been asked to step out of the case by the FBI, but Leon was never one for listening to authority when his gut told him to do what was right. He had gotten far too personally involved, and he was probably going to pay for that for the rest of his life.

"You getting a nice tan in Sunny Pseudo-California?"

She lifted up her sunglasses, stretched out her arm gracefully and gave it an appraising look. "Seems like it, don't you think?" She smiled. "Been keeping busy, then?" The unspoken other half of the question was, of course, ...since the whole police force thing collapsed.

"I was," Leon said. "Not so much lately. Carrot and Richard - I don't think you ever met him - have disappeared, and I haven't really done much investigating lately."

A slightly horrified expression crossed her face. "Carrot? Oh good lord ... when did this happen?"

She'd known about the disappearances, of course. This was the first time she'd actually known someone who'd vanished, and it was rather more upsetting than she'd expected it to be.

"Around Christmastime," said Leon. "After we got our gifts. He wanted to go home though, so I hope that's where he went."

Una nodded. "God. I hope so." Her gaze drifted out over the lake, where a dozen or so ducks were placidly drifting.

Leon followed her gaze, and then sighed a little. "What about you?" he asked, turning back to her. "Have you been doing much?"

She laughed a little at that. "Being social, making friends, and influencing people," she said, and her tone had more than its fair share of irony. "Leon, may I ask you something about your ideas for the police force?"

"More than me, I see," said Leon, grinning. Of course, Leon wasn't a very social person.

"It doesn't really matter now, but yeah, go ahead."
