Exploring the Park

Feb 11, 2008 15:13

Elle was in a pretty good mood as she explored the park. She had changed her bandages after taking a swim to clean up and decided to check out some more of the rides and amenities the park had to offer.

And maybe after sunset, she'd go looking for Spike.

[open to all! feel free to mod running into her wherever you want in the park :)]

From her temple, Aphrodite saw the pretty blonde girl approaching Splash Mountain. She'd been aware of the girl's arrival, the addition of one more mortal presence to the population.

And my, wasn't she an interesting one?

The goddess didn't approach her directly, because, well, that wasn't what goddesses did. But she did rise and part the gold and purple silk draperies to watch Elle pass.

The movement caught Elle's attention and she turned, immediately on the defensive with a ball of electricity at hand.

"Is someone there?"

"Hello there, darling," Aphrodite called out, smiling. "Nothing to be afraid of."

Well, not yet, anyway. As for the ball of electricity, Aphrodite ignored it. Being invulnerable to all but divine weapons meant she could afford to pay no mind to even the strangest mortal powers.

Elle let the ball fizzle out as she approached the temple. "Who are you?"

It was probably just as well that Aphrodite was starting to become at least slightly used to not being recognized for what, much less who, she was. Especially by the younger generation. What did they teach them in schools these days, really ... Athena and her counterparts were going to have a lot to answer for.

"My name is Aphrodite, dearest," she said.

"That's a pretty name," Elle said. No, her education hadn't included much on the ancient gods and goddesses.

"Thank you, darling. I've so many, but it's the one I like best. And what are you called?"

"My name is Elle," she replied. "I haven't been here very long."

"But you've already made quite an impression, I see," Aphrodite said, taking note of the bandage on Elle's wrist. Which was theatre, of course; her sphere of influence had the benefit of making her aware of certain kinds of connections between people. Not that she'd be the first to bring that up, for much the same reason she let people introduce themselves when she already knew their names.

Elle didn't realize that Aphrodite was looking at her bandages. "Everyone I've met so far has been really nice."

"Oh, that's lovely, darling." Not that nice rated for much with Aphrodite, since that was a quality she usually associated with-

"Tell me now, dear, have you met my daughter-in-law? Psyche, she's called. You'd know her by the butterfly wings."

"No, don't think so," Elle said. "But butterfly wings? That's cool!"

"She certainly thinks so," Aphrodite said. Personally, she'd always thought the wings were a ridiculous affectaction. It wasn't like the girl needed them to fly, and if she really wanted to be morphologically correct when taking to the air, couldn't she just turn into a bird like a normal goddess?

"Let me warn you, darling: she's very pretty, and she'll seem quite kind, but have a care with her. She's a dangerous one."

Elle smirked a little and conjured another ball of electricity. "I can take care of myself."

"Oh, I know you can, darling, at least with mortals." Glittery smile. "But for those such as Psyche and myself ... well, how about a demonstration?"

She stepped out of the pavilion and descended gracefully to the lawn. "Throw that at me."

That puzzled Elle. "I... don't want to hurt you."
