I'm on vacation but big whoop. There's a hurricane brewing.

I should be excited about my cruise. Instead I'm depressed.

Yet another big storm that could affect cruise itineraries is brewing in the Caribbean.

Forecasters says Tropical Storm Paloma, which has formed near the coast of Honduras and Nicaragua, is rapidly gaining strength as it moves toward the Cayman Islands.

As of 1:00 PM ET, Paloma was about 235 miles south of Grand Cayman Island and churning northward at about 7 miles per hour. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour but is expected to strengthen throughout the day and could become a hurricane as early as tonight.

Some models show the storm becoming a major hurricane in the coming days as it moves northward. The current forecast calls for it to cross over Cuba and eventually move northeastward in to the Bahamas.

Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen tells USA TODAY the line hasn't diverted any ships away from the storm so far, but its forecasters are "closely monitoring the storm's path." A spokesman for Royal Caribbean says all of the line's ships in the Caribbean also are still on track.

Fuck.

I don't think they'd cancel our cruise, but depending on the storm or any damage afterward they can cancel our ports of call -- in this case, Grand Cayman and Jamaica are dicier than Cozumel. You don't get refunded for that, either. It's in the fine print of your "cruise contract." Now, I enjoy days at sea well enough but the real point of crusing for me is the ports. I want to sightsee, to visit places I've never been before.

I'm going to be absolutely sick if we can't go to Grand Cayman or Jamaica. I hate to be such a sourpuss, but it really would ruin it for me. I don't want to sit my ass on the ship for 7 days.
