You need to get yourself a daylight lamp - I've got two and they are awesome! This is one of my two - bendy neck and two arms on the light which you can move to suit you.
Oh that one wouldn't but there are ones I've seen that have a clamp that would do - I've got one with a magnifying glass and lamp (for doing tiny details) and that has a clamp. (The one I bought is currently unavailable but something like this without all the extra tentacles 😂)
I've got one at the moment that hangs around my neck and braces against my chest, but the light isn't really strong enough, and it gets annoying because I only have to lean forward and it shifts position.
That is an ambitious cross-stitch project you got going there. Looking good. I've always enjoyed doing cross-stitch. Haven't done anything in, forever. I even still have 2 projects undone sitting in my cabinet. Maybe some day I'll finish them.
Working on a black background with dark/black thread is a bugger. Good luck with that.

Would it attach to one of those lap trays?
